So the tweet in relation to on demand is the Sky service. They replied to a comment saying that the online option is still a few weeks away. Was fuming after reading that. I still believe they have it ready but are not releasing it yet. I hope there is a backlash that forces them to release it alot sooner.

Why on earth would a company have a product that is ready for market, yet not release it and earn revenue ?

Because it is part of the agreement they have with SKY to be able to keep all the revenue made from the BeIN Sports channel on SKY. This is probably more likely be how SKY negotiated the deal, as the only way they can make money is by people choosing to sign up to SKY basic. Now that we know it's going to be a few weeks until Connect is available more people may sign up to Sky Basic + BeIN sports.

I'm confused.  BeIn gets $11.96/month for every subscriber on the Sky Platform or $18/month from those on BeINConnect.

How do delays help BeIN?  And how do they end up with more revenue from those signing up for Sky+BeIN?

It doesn't help BeIN, it helps SKY. If this is the case, it would be part of the negotiations that SKY would have wanted to be able to generate new customers. I personally find it very hard to believe they do not have the ability technically for us to have BeIN connect now, as there won't be a separate NZ version, we'll just use the same Infrastructure as some other part of the world with a slightly different website in front of it. (This is based of knowledge of working in the IT delivery\Infrastructure areas. Having said that I have seen projects delayed for the most minuscule of reasons!)

It helps BeIn because it may have been a condition imposed by Sky when negotiating access to their platform for BeIn.

For BeIn, having their service in sky is beneficial as not everyone is comfortable with, has the equipment or has the Internet service to be able to access their media online. PLP froze a lot of people and potential subscribers out this way so a deal like this makes sense as its mutually beneficial. Not sure it's the case but the theory stacks up.

Seriously?  Take the tinfoil hat off for a minute.  Do you seriously think that people will be stupid enough to sign up for 6 months at $60/month because they will miss the first couple of rounds?  even if they miss the first month thats spend $360 for six months rather than $90 for 5 months?

There are probably 7-10,000 people that used the PLP service that are hanging out waiting for the BeINConnect.  There'd be scant few that will commit to Sky rather than wait.  Meanwhile thats $200k per month that BeIN lose cos they aren't ready to go live.  $200k a month for a multi-million dollar sports right cost - small beer for them to forgo through delays.  They wouldnt give a rats whether the loss incurred this year is +/-200k.  Or even +/-$1m.  You're seriously overanalysing this in favour of a crackpot conspiracy theory - not to mention giving Sky way to much credit.  Its already shown in so many ways that it cant manage its way out of a paper bag but somehow is incredibly Machiavellian.

JarrodM: They tweeted me back saying sky go only channels will be made available from time to time to show simultaneous games live

Just noticed that games tonight… WBA v Everton & Swansea v Hull are on beIN pop-up channels 3 & 4 – both only on Sky Go, so can’t be recorded to watch in the morning.

Yes, but 2 of those are only on Sky Go, so unless you want to watch at 2am, Sky has screwed you yet again!

Or maybe its BEin?  BEin did indicate that due to not getting Aus they would not be doing much around New Zealand as it wasn't financially viable for them, which is why they tried to offload the rights to others.  BEin bid for the rights, won them and have so far declined to offer a service for New Zealand, blame them more in my opinion.

I think the lack of pop-up channels on sky is due to them having multiple Olympic pop-ups. I hope so anyway.

I see BeIN posted on their NZ facebook page earlier today in response to somebody asking about the status of BeIN Connect:

"beIN SPORTS CONNECT will not be available within the next few weeks. We are working hard to make the service available as soon as possible. Please stay tuned for future updates regarding release date, features, content and pricing."

Frustrating, isn't it?

Also, given that BeIN's own online service isn't ready to go, why wouldn't they allow Sky to broadcast BeIN channel 1 or 2 via the Sky Go service, even as a temporary measure.

I have yet to see a decent explanation for the delay, just BeIN's own cut & paste reply which they keep churning out on their Facebook page.

As a broadcaster that seems to be a new player in international football broadcasting, they really need to up their game in terms of customer service and communication.
