But after watching a 1080p DD+ film through Vudu, I was pleasantly surprised by the quality, and the fact that there wasn't any buffering at all. I was actually dumbfounded, to tell you the truth.
Either I had a miracle full speed connection to the US, or the content was being served via an Akamai CDN or similar, because I was getting full line speed (~16Mbps) for pretty much the entire duration of the film.
I couldn't quite believe what I was seeing. (I was checking the real time bandwidth using a tomato router).

I can't remember if this has been answered, but do we know if QuickFlix has local NZ servers, or does it all come from OZ currently?

I am on TCL Warpspeed plan which purports to provide 100Mbs download speeds though I have only ever seen that on the TCL speedtest site.

Vudu say 6-7 Mbs is enough so support 1080p with full audio so I guess we both had plenty, international bandwidth constraints notwithstanding. And this takes into account any VPN overhead if you're using one (which I am not).

Given that Orcon and Slingshot unmeter them, one would have to assume servers in NZ. they would be very iunlikely to unmeter something that cost international.

I watch QF in HD on my Sony Bravia. I think it is only 720p, but the quality is fine.

I also watch Netflix in HD. (720p too I believe)

Both work seamlessly
(Netlfix takes a few seconds longer to start, presumably cos of internaitonal lag, but once streaming starts it is fine I also use Unblock-Us so no VPN overhead

I'm only on ADSL2 (~15Mbps downstream)

I also use unblockUS but because my ISP is TCL I can only watch on devices. That isn't a big issue since I watch Vudu on a PS3, Netflix on a Logitech Revue, Roku and various handhelf devices and Amazon on the Roku and PS3.

But I need to use a VPN when I want to do account maintenance on Netflix via a browser.
