JonoNZ: Sky News UK is available on my Apple TV logged into the US iTunes Store. Works well from here too (no proxy or similar required).

So if we login with 2 apple ids on the ATV (1 NZ and other US apple id) would it show Sky News UK app? Would it matter which one is set to Primary?

Yes, but it's a pain in the arse to use: http://howto.cnet.com/8301-11310_39-57523804-285/how-to-add-manage-multiple-apple-ids-on-the-same-apple-tv/

If you're likely to want to use this a lot, just leave it set to the UK or US. You can still access your iTunes Home Share from your computer, the only reason you'd need to switch back to the NZ region is if you want to rent a movie from the NZ store.

Thanks magu and steve98

I actually have two Apple TVs. One for NZ and one for the US. I don't like to sign in and out. Works well.

geekiegeek: If TVNZ could release an ATV app I'd be a one box house. The only reason I have a HTPC is to PVR the news and seven sharp.

I don't watch state television because it's rubbish, but I often use the 3News iPad app to stream clips to my Apple TV. With such a hectic schedule I find it much more efficient to spend 10 minutes watching what I'm interested in rather than sitting through an hour of ads, sport, and general fluff.

Having said that the resolution is terrible. If they could improve it then I probably wouldn't bother watching the 3 News broadcast at all.

geekiegeek: That's the magical next step, when cable companies allow subscription for web only.

HBO is offering their content as a web/streaming only service in the Nordic countries. But they have managed to piss a lot of people off by demanding people sign up for 12 month contracts.

Its available for quite a few SmartTVs, on the web and for iPad. If they had an AppleTV app I might have kept my subscription. Got out of it before they could snag me for 12 months.

geekiegeek:It is good to see Apple adding more content to their "hobby" device even if you have to use VPN etc to access most of it. I know Netflix and Hulu get plenty of use in my house.

http://www.unblock-us.com/ really makes the setup of getting over the GeoIP-blocks a whole lot easier than with VPN, I can't say I miss having a VPN router in my setup (And I was never really happy with it). With Unblock-us the setup is easy and it works really well.

The problem is that I'm on Vodafone cable which has a proxy in front of it so I understand this doesn't allow these DNS services to work.

On another note, I've been checking out the new Qello channel on the ATV. Awesome music content, great concerts and mixes of content from different concerts put together as playlists. I signed up for a year subscription at only US$29 which I think is very reasonable.

I've signed up for it as well but on a monthly basis. Great little addition.

One thing I couldn't get to work was ESPN. It just doesn't load for me. Not sure if the ESPN streams are geo-blocked and Unblock-US doesn't have them yet.
