Apple has just put out an update for Apple TV that adds Sky News UK as an app/channel. It allows you to live-stream the channel or playback shows /  headlines on demand. It appears with latest software version when you set your country to UK or USA. Have not had a chance to test this yet so unsure if it's restricted to UK / US IP addresses but hopefully the likes of unblock-us will get around it. Anyone able to test?

I suspect it's a UK only thing as HBO and ESPN are on the US version as well now.

The question I have to ask now is: how can we setup an HBO subscription in the US without actually being there? I'd happily pay for HBO Go.

You can't. The HBO Go app actually requires a cable subscription, so unless you know someone in the US with such a subscription and who will give you their login credentials you're out of luck.

That's the magical next step, when cable companies allow subscription for web only.

It is good to see Apple adding more content to their "hobby" device even if you have to use VPN etc to access most of it. I know Netflix and Hulu get plenty of use in my house.

Sky News UK is available on my Apple TV logged into the US iTunes Store. Works well from here too (no proxy or similar required).

WIN! Well, that's me cancelling my Sky subscription. A rolling news channel was all that I was missing.

Is it Sky News UK you get when set to US as the country? Don't think the US have their own version of Sky News but thought I'd check? If it's a US version can you try setting country as the UK and seeing how you go? Shouldn't need a login for it or anything.

If TVNZ could release an ATV app I'd be a one box house. The only reason I have a HTPC is to PVR the news and seven sharp.

So if we login with 2 apple ids on the ATV (1 NZ and other US apple id) would it show Sky News UK app? Would it matter which one is set to Primary?

Someone from Sky NZ just came to collect my Sky decoder this morning. I'm fully setup with Hulu Plus and Netflix. Considering buying shows on iTunes US but would rather pay for HBO content streaming, if it was possible.

I'm eagerly waiting for Sky UK F1 to appear on the Apple TV as well.

Fantastic. Thanks for confirming that. I've been missing Sky News UK ever since Sky NZ decided to switch to the joke that is Sky News "New Zealand".

Yes, but it's a pain in the arse to use: http://howto.cnet.com/8301-11310_39-57523804-285/how-to-add-manage-multiple-apple-ids-on-the-same-apple-tv/

If you're likely to want to use this a lot, just leave it set to the UK or US. You can still access your iTunes Home Share from your computer, the only reason you'd need to switch back to the NZ region is if you want to rent a movie from the NZ store.
