SaRaCeNz: I estimate NF brings in somewhere just under 24 million USD per year from Aus/NZ currently. In my opinion that gives NF 24 million reasons to ignore grumbling from TV execs and distributors (who I might add are also getting a large cut of that pie). Bitching about T+S, IP and rights etc is one thing but so long as the pig is providing bacon, I can't see anyone willing to enforce T+S, IP or rights. Especially when their alternative income stream is negative.
Also worth pointing out that Sky probably have a very comfy position at present. By looking the other way while mostly geeks plug into NF- they don’t risk getting in an unwinnable war with NF by trying to shut them out.

Put Netflix in front of my girlfriends mum or her sister, and they're hooked. I was asked 3 times a day if Netflix was working again during the latest outage. The only thing stopping Netflix mass adoption in NZ is the Technology problem

I think Netflix would be smart to buy quickflx out, as quickflix is on so many devices already. I think telecom missed a big opportunity themselves by not buying them out. If netflix does come to NZ, I don't like telecoms chances with their system.
Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.
KiwiNZ:
A Telco could partner with Netflix

Since hearing about Telecom's new image and forward plan, I immediately thought of a joint venture with Netflix - (Sparksflix)
SaRaCeNz: Yeah- but in reality, any streaming service in NZ needs to get iTunes on side so they can push out an app to ATV. Otherwise I suspect they are wasting their time.
SaRaCeNz: I'd say ATV has the most "Mom+Pop" appeal so far as streaming devices go. Apple and iTunes have an extremely trusted brand where as Roku, WDTV etc do not have significant brand following among the average vanilla consumer and are seen more as a hobbyist device here.

Agree, and it's quite prevalent already, and suits their iTunes accounts. In saying that I've introduced quite a few people to the Chromecast and Google Play, the control from your phone, is an easy sell.
dclegg:
We also need to see an end to these content service/hardware manufacturer exclusivity partnerships, such as the one between TV3 and Samsung. To paraphrase Helen Lovejoy, "Won't somebody please think of the consumers!"

Personally I have to say I love my Chromecast + phone/tablet, it's a very simple interface and the Chromecast is super cheap to pickup and doesn't lock you into the apple world (it locks you into Google instead, but at least the devices are cheaper!). Had a sick daughter at home today and she spent the whole day watching NF. It's only a relatively recent addition to my household but the kids love it and still trying to convince my better half we can dump Sky.
