I don't see any "hatred" here. Just repeated observations that its content is far too poor for it to be a contender. Despite the price comparison to Sky, the lack of content means that the cheaper price still doesn't represent value.

Plus the price comparison to Sky needs to take account of the fact that Sky has an option of around $35 a month for a package of all you can eat movie channels, which include some fairly recent releases. on QF, most good movies come at an additional price.

I wish QF luck. The NZ market seriously needs a service like this. But until they address their content deficiency, I won't be joining.

All I can find is the moves add-on which costs $35 over and above the $45 basic package - so that's $80 to get movies.

The movies are older than QF ppv, which come out on the same day as DVD release. Sky movies subscription package don't yet them for some time after that. The movies with that level of recency are also ppv on sky, not included in the movie package.

If you want the movies to be almost at your convenience (you can record them, but still need to wait for them to be broadcast), that's another.$15 per month for mysky. Getting pretty close to $100 there. Quickflix is on demand from the get go, always at your convenience.

As for range, have you counted how many different movies sky will show in any given month? 50, maybe? They mostly put the same bunch on repeat.

Basically, sky is rubbish unless you love sport. Quickflix is not as good as netflix, but still streaks ahead of sky IMO.

So, in synopsis:

Price: Sky > Quickflix > Netflix
Movie/TV content: Sky < Quickflix << Netflix

Demonstrates what how a monopoly (Sky) in a captured, ill-informed market (NZ) ends out in topsy-turvey results. Free market indeed

True, but there's more than enough, given the time I have available to watch them. And I'm not too fussed about always seeing the latest release immediately.

Nope. I don't have a MySky. I record them onto a Panasonic recorder. Works just fine. Plus, it has DLNA (so I can stream across the network and transfer to my NAS if storage is running low), and the ability to offload unwatched material to DVD-R/RW (also if hard drive space is low, or if I want to watch elsewhere.

The large backlog of material on my NAS is also always ready to go, at my convenience, on any device (TV, Laptop, Tablet, phone) in any room. And, instead of a random collection of old films, all the films on it are of some interest to me (or I wouldn't have recorded them). Without chewing my internet bandwidth - which you also have to factor into the QF cost equation.

Fair enough. Each to their own. I may drop it at some point, as the price is on the steep side, but at the moment it works for me. Personally, I never seem to have fewer than 50 unwatched films queued up if I want something to watch. And I prefer the all you can eat model to PPV, so I can channel surf rather than have to make purchase decisions all the time. I'm actually close to dropping Sky as Netflix looks like a much better value option. However, from my perspective, QF doesn't.
