You hardly ever see it discussed on an open forum, but it has been around as long as I can remember.

I have to say I was a bit confused about the locking of the thread as well. The payment method you suggested is pretty well known. Has been talked about on here a number of times as well as published on Orcon's website as a way to get Netflix. I think the cat as already bolted on this one.

And I guess the "horse is already out of the bag" too - haha

Netflix accepted my Westpac Visa Debit! I couldnt sign up with this card a month ago so I went down a more complicated route to signup for the free month with paypal but then couldnt renew.

I tried this card again just now and it worked second time around.

There doesnt seem to be a set rule as to what works. Some get lucky

Now, I just need a box to replace mysky and I'm done.

Amazon Fire rates highly here, though I'm in the Applw ecosystem already and chose an ATV and have no regrets.

You mean a PVR like a Tivo (if you can find one) or a panasonic PVR. Funnily enough tivos are now making a bit of a comeback in the US and UK.

Yes, I need something to view & record freeview. There is still something to be enjoyed about browsing TV channels, bit like a box of chocolates so to speak . Although, I tend to flick through channels than actually watch anything .

I will enjoy cancelling sky though, having been a customer for 11 years straight.

Agreed, although I do agree with the rationale, maybe a list of services/cards that don't work (i.e. they can't block what is already not working ;)), especially since some banks seem to be profiling (at least a portion of) the streaming sites as high-fraud risk.

As an example, signing up for NowTV (UK service) triggered 2x card blocks (I'd tried two cards) by Westpac's Fraud Dept and a follow-up call, apparently can be overridden for 2 hour periods but useless for subscriptions. Fun fact, the transactions that were declined were 20p auth checks.

I also recall someone saying in a thread (edit: Original Post) a year-or-two ago about paying for Netflix that either all BNZ or a subset of BNZ cards were perma-blocked with no (or hard to obtain) override (not sure if that is still correct).

You won't get a PVR with Freeview support *and* Netflix/Hulu/Amazon Instant Video. Your best bet is a local PVR and an Amazon Fire TV.
