Hmmm - by my exchange rate calculator it's still just cheaper to remain on the US acount:
$7.99US (grandfathered, two devices, HD) = $12.09NZD vs $12.99 for the equivalent NZ plan.

I guess there are a few cents currency conversion, and if the NZD keeps getting all Zimbabwe-dollar on it, then that may well change. A watching brief, as they say!

On the 2 screen HD $7.99 plan means staying in the US is cheaper until that plan disappears.

My HD account bill was just $13.47 plus a $0.28 "offshore service margin", versus the $12.99 of the local NZ account, as I never had the grandfathered account.

Yes, I know the difference is miniscule, but it's just the principle of it.

My US Netflix bill came in this week at $12.09 ($11.87 plus cc fees), so while not much different it's still a bit cheaper for those of us still on the grandparented plan. I'll only move to an NZ account once the U.S. cost is higher, and is likely to stay like that for a while, given I assume I'll lose access to the grandparented plan at that point. Of course, once the grandparenting comes to an end (which is when?) such a change will be worth it even if the exchange rate is similar to now.

It is even cheaper if you are like me who loaded their online CC with a years worth of Netflix sub in USD when the rate was really good. Pure luck and nothing else in that decision!

OK - have successfully transferred to the NZ account.
I cancelled my subscription and got viewing to the end of the billing month still.
Once the month had ended I was able to change billing regions when I re-signed.

I use unotelly so set the region to NZ for Netflix.
When I logged onto netflix.com I was offered the chance to re-join.
It was a easy process - the price came up in NZ dollars and it remembered by cc details passwords etc
My viewing history was also intact. It made suggestions on what I had watched in the past still when browsing after the re-signing.

As a bonus was given a FREE MONTH when signing up to the NZ billing. No idea why but works for me.

I also noted that if you set unotelly to other regions it starts to charge you in that currency (eg GBP for the UK).

For me I was not on the grandfathered 7.99 plan so with the USD at these lows staying in the US costs about $14/mth ATM for the 8.99 plan.
The free month means about $1 a month saving over the next year as well :)
