Netflix won't work on the PS3 unless it's up to date. Have to be logged into PSN at same time and that only allows you to log in if firmware is the latest.

Also know someone with PS4 and they're going fine without blocking to, don't know anyone with Apple TV though.

My ATV4 is up to date and as implied above I see all DNS requests going to specified server, i.e., a bind9 service on my local network.

Spark Max Fibre using Mikrotik CCR1009-8G-1S-1S+, CRS125-24G-1S, Unifi UAP, U6-Pro, UAP-AC-M-Pro, Apple TV 4K (2022), Apple TV 4K (2017), iPad Air 1st gen, iPad Air 4th gen, iPhone 13, SkyNZ3151 (the white box). If it doesn't move then it's data cabled.

The ATV4 definitely is, not sure about the others although I think so. Have just realised that the other possible difference is that I have a US iTunes account and have the ATV location set as USA.

I finally got round to setting up unotelly on appletv and it worked with out any changes having to be made on router.

Hi Guys,

Lew from dns4me support here.

We have been running lots of tests on the ATV4 over the last few weeks. There is no hard coding of any of the DNS servers you just need to set the desired DNS server IP (be it Unotelly or dns4me) into the network settings on the ATV.

The one issue with the ATV4 which may be confusing some people is that the home screen of the Netflix App gets cached. So if you have opened up NZ Netflix then changed your smart DNS to say the USA, you will still see the home screen for NZ Netflix. To get around this you either have to log out of Netflix or change your profile to clear the cache. Restarting or killing the App doesn't work as the cache remains intact. If you have plenty of time on your hands you can wait 1 day for the cache to expire 😂

This applies when changing to any Netflix region on the ATV4.

For netflix and chromecast to work I have blocked 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 which works fine.

Previously I blocked more servers, using a list provided by freitasm but this created issues, so wen't back to just having Google's blocked

Thanks for this.... I have been trying to explain this issue to Unotelly reps with no success... they didn't seem to believe me!

Just so that people are aware, the search function works immediately even though the home screen is not updated.

I have multiple iOS devices (iPhone, iPad, Apple TV 3/4) and PS3/4. All are up to date. The only change I made is to modify the DNS address in the specific device. I have never had to reroute or block any specific DNS addresses.

All work fine for region changes, with the exception of the Apple TV 4 "bug" explained above.
