For my daughters birthday we got Netflix. This service seemed so good that after a few days we upgraded to HD and thats when problems started. Netflix 'standard' plan works with most anything but their HD plan although looks attractive, only worked with a couple of devices in our house, and even then, not in HD.
So you may have Netflix HD, have the bandwidth, but unless you have an approved device eg TV with Netflix, get low resolution.

If Netflix worked with all devices there should be no excuse for torrent downloads or Android streamers such as 'Showbox' but when Showbox actually works better than Netflix at zero price, the argument for legit watching gets watered down imho.

There is info on Netflix device compatibility on their site, (the device list is quite limited) but the bottom line is it comes down to money - when TV makers pay Netflix truckloads for their devices to be compatible, the small players like TV Box makers dont stand a chance. Also, my Samsung Note3 didnt work in HD. My linux PC didnt work until I fooled Netflix by using a spoofer; but its still running standard resolution. They claim that the reason devices are limited is because unapproved devices may not work properly; but surely a disclaimer would suffice eg 'unapproved devices may not work properly or with full resolution'; that would keep players like me happy and from what I read there are thousands who are missing out on HD.

Im importing a couple of TV boxes which have 4k streaming H265 VP9, but they work work with the HD service Im paying for from Netflix.

Wished there was a cost-effective service that we could use that once paid for, provided HD good quality like Netflix, unfortunately at the moment there seems nothing.

VP9 and H265 are NOT the same thing. VP9 is a codec invented by Google, H265 is by ISO/IEC MPEG

If you want 4k, pay the extra for netflix... It's worth it.

I think there is little argument of whether theft is involved. This ad says "enjoy paid tv for free". The intentions of the device is pretty clear.

I note in their FAQs they say it's "a small computer (running android) which we have customised", and:

So not the slightest bit of detail.

I can do all that with my browser. Anyone who buys one of those boxes sure is spending a lot to get 'paid tv for free'. Funny how ignorance goes with greed.

Hmm before you make a statement like that; recognise your own ignorance; There are many who have Tellys prior to the advent of browsers/apps, where an external box is necessary for those features.

My C100S box provides freeview satellite and android apps includes Netflix to a very good but older Sony TV.

I think you are talking about something else. This isn't about an STB, but about an Android Kodi box with links anyone can find to pirated content that is being sold to the ignorant and greedy for about 10x more than its normal market value.

Bad examples. False premise.

All your examples assume something physical being "stolen".

Accessing a stream of a show already broadcast and seen (and recorded?) by millions in another country......sort of like your mate taping a TV show he saw on his TV back in the day and sending it to you so you can see it.

That's a better example.

The premise is simply taking something that doesn't belong to you and you don't have the right to have/use.

That old chestnut as you put it is valid, you are just using semantics to dismiss it.

Now if you didn't want to rehash it you simply wouldn't respond, but alas you do.

I think the real issue here is that if these people said "here is a box that lets you watch your own personal owned media (life family movies)" they would not sell, the way they are getting them to sell is by saying it has access to all this content for free and you just have to pay us $200+ dollars to do it. They make it sound like there is nothing wrong with doing it but we all know that their devices would not sell if they did not include "all this free stuff and you no longer have to pay a monthly fee to netflix/sky/other"
