I hope they dont point to freeview plus as a replacement for the app on samsung since it is crippled with its attachment to the broadcast services.

The flip side (as I understand it) is that sadly now the licensing rights have lapsed Samsung will be removing the app from their smart TV's.  There's always a downside!

I've no idea what the future holds for the TVNZ OD app on Samsung smart TVs, but I think they'd be foolish not to keep it. There's only a very few apps on Samsung smart TVs that aren't junk. If they get rid of something that people are likely to want - eg TVNZ OD, 3Now, Youtube, Netflix, then Samsung loses something in comparison to other brands. After all, the whole idea behind them having exclusive rights to the TVNZ app to begin with, was so that they'd have that point-of-difference.

Not saying you're wrong, just that logically speaking it would be foolish of Samsung to drop the TVNZ app. The future will tell. So far it's still on my old Samsung smart tv!

My only source was a seemingly knowledgeable salesperson warning me that if a brought a new Samsung TV there was no guarantees that the On Demand app would remain available. As the exclusive rights lapsed he was quite firm that it was a goner. I was pleased he was upfront with the warning, so that at least was something

Lazy is such an ugly word, I prefer to call it selective participation

The TiVo saga is a timely reminder of the uncertain nature of any of these apps.

Will you be able to go back to Noel Lemmings if your smart TV no longer offers the apps it had at launch date in the future?
