I dont think anything will change. There Is competition, that should reign pricing in to near the Netflix standard, even though this standard is too cheap. We had TV with one channel, then 2 or 3, now its many. Choice. Pay TV services are so cheap at $15. But its spread out, but that's competition. We complained that Sky was too expensive at $100, but for some we may be back at $100 per month. I can see piracy increasing.

While $15 is cheap as chips for what you get, some may find they pay $15 for one series because thats all they need form that provider, and $15 for another one series, and so on. Others will pay just $15, forego the rest and enjoy it.

Piracy may rise

In my mind rentals are fine, it’s like going to the movies. Or buy physical.

I don’t trust buy digital, there’s been cases where contracts expire, and the media you “own” no longer works (Disney and someone else IIRC)

Sure but how many physical releases can you buy new for the same price as the digital edition?

On apple it was about $9 to buy I thought, or $7 to rent.  Quite reasonable.

TV Shows (in the us, were sold for $1.99, or a season for $20 - USD)

Thats expensive. In todays world of bingeing you could rack up a lot of $ quite quickly.

It reminds me of the days on broadband. You get x MB or x GB, after that excess usage charges. Unlimiited took away that pain and worry.

Microsoft wants over $30 NZ for series like the 100, it’s a season pass so think it expires as well, more like renting.
Can watch multiple seasons on Netflix for $15 lol.

But that’s how it was (and is done). If you want this week and no ads (ie not Hulu) that’s what you paid.

I think it will be boring as hell. The hype they're trying to create is ludicrous. I can understand why, because the are so late to join the party and so much behind the netflix.

"The hype they're trying to create is ludicrous." That is called marketing 101 and Apple are experts at it. Look at their anti-microsoft ads - I'm a PC campaign. All their iPod/iTunes ads- brilliant. And best of them all the 1984 MacIntosh ad.

"because the are so late to join the party" This is what Apple does, iPod, iPhone & iPad, iWatch were all late to the party and within a couple of years they ruled the roost. A year after the iPod release they started iTunes. These products alone made them a trillion dollar company.

They are now REALLY starting to branch out into the services industry based upon their hardware; iTunes, iMovies, iTV, iHealth, iHome, AI & AR, iCar software, iMaps (I know too many i's but you get the point). Services based on good solid hardware is their future.

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

Not really based on good solid hardware, but more on one set of rules that they control, so it will always work with consistency and performance and wont be blindsided by other hardware makers

Their market share = instant sales already locked in

A couple of journalistic speculative stories to ponder.

Bloomberg: Apple TV service to feature mostly content from partners at launch, Apple’s original TV shows coming later

I mostly agree with this as Apple just does not have the original content, anyway all the other streaming services do it as well.

Analysts see 100 million subscribers for Apple’s streaming service within 3 to 5 years

The devil is going to be in the cost structure. Even though they already have a huge itunes, iMovie and iMusic subscriper base they are still going to have to make it really attractive. As I said in my OP, buying or renting on a per product basis like they now have with iMovies will persuade me. I'll pay for what I want to watch, when I want to watch, not for what I do not want to watch e.g. like the Skype packages.
