steve98:

Disney briefly published the date for Mulan being added to the regular / included-with-subscription library as December 4th, then promptly removed it. I was thinking about the premier access since we're a family of 4 who were planning on seeing this in the cinema back before the pandemic, but if it's going to be "free" just three months later, I may reconsider.

Screenshot with the December info as reported at Screen Rant:

Three months, I’ll happily wait to save $40.00 a movie. Thought they’d make it longer, as a lot of other people could think the same.

I see no value in purchasing a premium movie experience at home.

Unfortunately, I live with Neanderthals who feel that if we are watching at home, we must have lights on, check phones from time to time and then have conversations.

Plus they also feel the need to wader about, ask for the movie to be paused so they can (whatever it is they want to do), drinks, food and other accompaniments are requested shortly after starting and inevitably a three hour movie takes around 4 hours to complete, with usually just me in the room at the end, fuming about the failed movie experience.

Go to the cinema - we all behave like human beings and there are no phones, no conversations, no requests for refreshments partway through the movie and no discussions about what is or isn't plausible in that scene or other...

Personally, I'll take a trip to the movies any day...

Where is this theatre you speak of? I have experienced all of the behaviours you mention above at movie theatres of (relatively) recent times.

Add to that half an hour of adverts before the movie starts, a blemish on the projection screen that once noticed can’t be ignored and light pollution from exit signs and aisle lighting. If I could watch a movie in an environment that I control soon after its released, I’ll take that every time.

Edit: And not wearing a mask and using hand sanitiser every time you touch something.

Disney are not releasing Mulan theatrically in countries that have Disney+ so that's not an option for the movie being discussed in this thread.

I didn't realise that...Having been to the movies just before the last lockdown, there were theatrical trailers for the film and I thought it would be a good option when they reopen...that's quite disappointing.

I guess I'll watch it on my own when it is released for free later in the year.

So here's something interesting. Mulan is leaving Premier Access on November 2nd. Which happens to be the same week Black Widow is supposed to be coming out. Curious timing wouldn't you say? Wouldn't be shocked if Disney have already decided to release Black Widow on Premier Access but they want to wait for Mulan's numbers to confirm if its actually a a good idea.

I sincerely hope it's an unmitigated disaster and they are forced to release Black Widow in cinemas...that is one I definitely don't want to try and watch at home...

I mean. I'm indifferent really. On one hand I can see the appeal of the theatrical experience. Its cheaper. Big screen big sound. On the other hand i'm an introvert and prefer instant gratification. Opening Disney+, paying $40 and clicking play is a lot more convenient for me than having to travel 20-25min to my local theater, waiting in line. Not knowing if I might get good seats unless I book in advance. My home theater is pretty decent to.

Now there is one of my pet hates. I have family members (I wont confirm they are inlaws as they will get upset) that nag to watch a movie, I know the outcome and sure enough they talk through it and insist on debating what movies what actor has been in until the point where and I announce I  have urgent emails to attend to and take myself to the office. This is both for my sanity and their collective safety.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

even if i really want to see the film early, $40 is at the top end of what i'll happily pay for premium access. so i hope the price sticks and doesn't become $50 for Black Widow, or some other more eagerly anticipated blockbuster. it's good that re-runs are allowed. i'll watch it all by myself to avoid the aforementioned interruptions.

had enough of:

"oh, that's <actor's name>. he/she was married to <celebrity's name>. they have 2 kids, but separated now."

"looks like <actor's name> has had some work done on his/her nose/lips/cheekbones."

What’s the source for the Nov 2nd date? As per my earlier post in this thread the date shown on Disney+ for a short while was Dec 4th.

Edit: Disney+ is now displaying the Dec 4 date again and this has been confirmed by Disney today.

Not just the ticket price, cost of getting there, additional time taken for getting there and back, food and snacks are much pricier at the cinema vs my fridge, I have no need to fit screening times around other activities.

Hell, the ticket price could be free and I would still not want to go to the cinema.

Add in kids as well, if my wife and I want to see Black Widow or similar in the theatres we would need to arrange someone to look after them etc. Where as streaming a movie at home we just wait for them to go to bed. While the whole experience is nice to go out and make the movie an event, eat hot/fresh popcorn etc it really is more than the $40 for the premium access for the two of us.

Ok well I caved. We are a family of four who would absolutely have seen this at the movies and we’re actually supposed to be at Disneyland right now so we figured why the heck not. We were not disappointed, this is a beautiful movie that my two boys watched with mouths open end to end. Would recommend but if you wouldn’t have splashed on seeing it at the movies then by all means wait the three months. Your call.
