The whole idea of a 'smart TV' is a bit of a waste of time IMHO.

Ditto, you should basically make a purchase based on the best panel...

Tvs are notorious for being unsupported as they age...

Folks had a Sony that they used to be able to Skype the Grandkids on,

One day Skype updated something in the protocols and the Sony refused to connect.... calls to Sony NZ were met with a "shrug" & "It's not a change were are responsible for "

I've only looked at a TV purchase as display panel. Content will always be delivered by a specialist 3rd party box and audio will always be handled by an external system or soundbar. It just needs to display the video signal you send to it.

Relying on a TV's inbuilt smarts is like asking an electrician to fix a leak in your plumbing.

Unfortunately, Samsung is known for ditching their smart OS on TVs for something new and better - If they could just stick with android it will resolve a lot of issues.

Samsung users don't want Android.

I have 'smart DNS' set up and can access everything I want - more than the TV would have ever allowed me to access.

Could you please elaborate on what you mean by 'smart DNS' setup ?
