MikeB4: Sky's dominance and monopolistic behavior has seen sport viewing out of reach for many including our national sports. This should be addressed and in many of the more "free" markets they would have been subject of anti trust actions.

without Sky money we would have no National sports

We had national sports long before Sky came along.

Do you mean Sky, or massive $ deals to grow these national sports? Which is not Sky

These are just Ford vs Holden, National vs Labour, Apple vs Android arguments.

Not bagging your post but Id like to see Rugby as a national sport without Sky.  Im quite fine that Spark Sport or TVNZ+ stump up many many millions for a very very low user subscription or free (to keep the anti Sky people happy)

MikeB4: Anti trust regulations are designed to encourage and regulate competition. Sky is anti competition.

You've got a country with 5 million people, there's always going to be limited competition.

There's nothing that Sky is doing that is specifically using their market power to limit competition.

They acquire sports rights in a free and open market and lose sports rights from time to time to competitors. Those competitors find it difficult to stay in business because NZ is a tiny market, not because sky is anti competition.

No, Sky just uses their financial muscle to sue potential rivals into submission. Sky misused the judicial system to kill geo-unblocking, except for those of us who know how to do it anyway. Sky has tried to use the courts and every other means at its disposal to squelch any kind of innovation that might threaten its dominance or force it to actually invest in its dinosaur technology.

My dinosaur technology works very very well, unlike screeds of other threads here for other services.

Rugby uses its financial muscle, as do other sports.

Geo unblocking? Maybe the Police can sponsor radar detectors?

Sky has dominance? Spark Sport joined the party...  TVNZ will do it all for free, funded by taxpayers. If the Govt took over Sky so I can have it for free, I am all in

Law suits. Sky TV took the company to court this year claiming its devices were pre-loaded with piracy software that infringed copyright laws. Problem?

Back in the day the rest of the Sky haters, well, hated Sky, we want competition. As Sky isnt nor ever has been a monopoly that has played out. Now they bleat about needing x number of $20 per month subscriptions due to fragmentation, i.e. competition.

Years ago here, someone wanted all the content on the internet for $15 per month. You cannot fund many TV series, movies or sport for that. If that happened, then the bleating will be about the producers and actors I guess.

Im not the oldest around here, or the youngest, but I just see an ongoing trend that is glass half empty. Thats the big news generally.

Ah innovation. True tech bro speak for ignoring any law that is inconvenient.

Just a small thing, and it seems to be a common misconception of late, but TVNZ is not funded by taxpayers, it's Government owned but runs as a commercial broadcaster funded mainly by advertising. Radio NZ on the other hand is crown funded and doesn't have advertising and perhaps this is where the confusion is happening for people. It's a small but important distinction.

I don't think all six will be all blacks games. To add to a previous post I found the following:

"Sky said live free-to-air coverage includes a semifinal, bronze final and grand final."

Those 3 games must count as part of the six live games so that only leaves 3 others on FTA.

Watched motogp fp1 last night.

The quality was surprisingly good with zero issues.  On par with spark motogp coverage which was always excellent.
