I've got the same setup and don't have this issue, so it's obviously not universal. Not that that helps solve your problem.

This probably won’t help you, but I have a Samsung tv where the inbuilt video player always has subtitles on. You have to turn it off every time. The trick is to go into settings and change the subtitle transparency to 100%. No more subtitles, ever!

Yeah have the same issue via Apple TV in last week.

Luckily only watch The Chase and first 10 mins of the News on TVNZ so bearable…. 😊

Not noticed with TVNZ+ but just had captions come up airplaying from sky go tonight when they were turned off on the iPad app streaming and on Apple tv. Had to turn on and then off on the Apple tv.
