Apparently Orcon customers are to get their First month Free of charge to try out QuickFlix.

Unfortunately I was in a rush and already had purchased my subscription before hearing about that.

Beccara: Anyidea on how you get the app for the ps3?

Probably have to wait until Quickflix push it to Sony for an update i guess....

they claim it is available right now on the website, so it shouldbe there.

If it isn't, then major fail.  don;t claim something that doesn't yet exist.

If I sign up for this trial now, it will expire at the end of April, which will be before it is unmetered? So it would be better to wait until May to trial it?

I've signed up on the basis that:

1: It's only $10/month and if I don't watch anything at least I'm supporting legal content availability in NZ.
2: the library isn't huge but is getting bigger each day.
3: they're here and Netflix isn't.
4: I have a PC and a TV and an iPad and a laptop and an XBox and I'm told it will eventually work on all these devices.

At the launch this morning they outlined an increasing library (starting with classics, working forward as rights permissions change); access to HD as well as SD content; a smart-streaming service for computer users that means the file size is based on your connection speed, tested every few seconds to see how you're doing; some Pay Per View movies at $7/movie but most are under the existing subscription model.

So far I've watched S01E01 Spooks (which I missed first time round), a favourite episode of Black Adder and the opening sequence to Drive (excellent movie) and have spotted at least half a dozen more movies I'll watch. Not bad for my tenner and far more than I expected.

It's not Netflix - it doesn't have the range, it doesn't have the devices yet and it doesn't have the marketing hype - but it's here and it's ready now.

So, Vodafone - when are you going to zero rate the data?

cheers

Paul

I've only watched on my PC so far, and the older shows are older so all SD - but it's fine.

They say it needs at least 1.5Mbit/s download speed to watch - I get around 15Mbit/s down so it just streams in as soon as I click start.

We saw something in HD at the launch on a big screen - 720p that streamed nicely on a Sony TV via the Sony service. That looked excellent and I'll be including it in my TV upgrade plan for later this year when I do upgrade.

They're still rolling out device but expect to hit 80% of device types by the end of the year.

Content is being added at a rate of 800 hours of TV a month (from memory) and movies also.

For some reason they're managing the content that's visible - no mass dump, just easing it out there. Not sure I'd have done that and it begs the question if you have content why not just make it all available...

but so far so good. It's $10 and if I watch one series of something that's more than my money's worth.

BTW - if you sign up for the trial - you can only ring them to cancel the trial before the month is up else they will charge your credit card

Just something to watch out for

Do they have a NZ or multiple based CDN? Their website traces to Aus?

I think the news papaer article said the $10 a month was for the 1st few months then it was $15. Still a good price.
