Yeps the res selector is on the Android app but not on the browser. No biggie at the moment but would be nice evntually to have the option.. Even if the connect speed is excellent, browsers can get a bit trippy with the auto setting so I like to double check to make sure.

Had a play around on it before with my iPad. Pretty good. Just wondering re MUTV, I have a subscription to this via the MUTV, anyone at spark know if this option will disappear for New Zealand users? Ie is MUTV exclusive to spark sport?

Janky, but if your concerned check your console log for info's if you wanna check.

Personally I'm a fan of auto forend users.. But as a power user I miss it heavily. Auto is simple to use and the player itself preforms really well (they have demos that show your bitrate etc. I was actually impressed.)

After playing with it a bit more I have a couple of comments (constructive feedback):

  • I find it weird the catch up programmes come before live feeds.  If I were tuning into something live I'd want to find it quickly and would expect it "front an centre" so to speak.
  • The 3 chevron blue logo is a bit too prominent for me.  Any chance it could be moved up and to the right a bit more?  Even better...could it be overlayed at the start and removed later on?
  • Great job getting the Android app out there at launch!  I say this because it is far more feature complete than the web browsing approach.
  • Can we get an Android TV app too please?  Even if "eventually".
  • In the Android app - the order for the video quality seems to change.  Just now, when casting to a Chromecast the lowest res was at the top.  Now watching (the same feed) on the mobile the highest res is at the top.  I'd prefer highest at the top, however, I'd favour a consistent approach first.
  • Some video feeds are super smooth (eg the Rally coverage) - others are a bit jerky (e.g. Hockey).  I'm not sure why and dont think its at my end.  I have seen other streaming services combat this by allowing you to pause the feed to allow it to buffer a bit - even just a few seconds can be enough.  Image quality is great on the whole otherwise!
  • I managed to get the casting to pop up a DRM error! Not sure how/what I did.  It mentioned a DRM error with HTTP status 403 :D  Restarting the app solved it.

I know I'm being picky - especially as its still Beta.  You've done a great job Spark and this is looks a very promising platform!  Keen to try the live feeds when they start.

So I have had a play from the Android App to my new Android Sony TV. It has not gone well.

1) I am seeing a large number of pauses in play

2) Sound will sometimes play on the phone (note 9 with Pie) when the picture is playing on the big screen

3) Getting HD Picture isn't working well. I can get it around half the time. I have plenty of bandwidth and high quality Wifi.

Later, I'll test how it goes with the Shield TV (Casting), but I am not that hopeful.

On the TV when Chromecasting to it.  I have a Mi Box that acts as a Chromecast.  When I cast from the mobile to it I see it.  Doesn't appear on web or app directly.

Its not being picky, its a beta, its what is needed. Your detail is excellent. This will be looked at tomorrow. The res order, yes that's been seen. Yes, Ive noticed WRC is smooth, as is F1. the Hockey isn't as good. Its better now, but not as good. It can be asked but I guess it may be the gear that was used for recording. WRC is big, NZ Womens hockey, not so much. That can be asked, what the feed was. DRM error has been seen

And I really do mean it as constructive (picky) feedback.  I think Spark have done well myself.

I have this mental image of TalkieT and others sitting in on hourly conf calls from home since lunch trolling here (and other sources) feeding the harshest of critics (here) comments to a whiteboard of many to-dos and a rapid responce team head down butt up coding the earlier adjustments on the dev environment ready to publish :)

LOL, not me. I am not in the core Sports team... I'm peripherally involved on the network side - I try to stay as clear from the apps as possible, that's all just black magic...

This sounds like something i may have seen in the wild..

To confirm a common trait, who would your provider be there?
