networkn:

So I have had a play from the Android App to my new Android Sony TV. It has not gone well.

1) I am seeing a large number of pauses in play

2) Sound will sometimes play on the phone (note 9 with Pie) when the picture is playing on the big screen

3) Getting HD Picture isn't working well. I can get it around half the time. I have plenty of bandwidth and high quality Wifi.

Later, I'll test how it goes with the Shield TV (Casting), but I am not that hopeful.

KD-55X930D Sony TV here.

Casting from Android, Samsung Note4, to the TV. I get a judder every 10 secs or so. The quality looks good, but the stream isn't smooth. Tried pausing the feed, to see if buffer related and then play but to no avail.

Tried side loading it to the TV - app fails to load

Installed on Android Media player ( Ziddo Z9s) Fails to load.

Chrome on i7 Surface book 2 is the best experience so far.

I think this weekend I will hook surfacebook up to the tV via HDMI

I have got it working from an S7 Edge to a Chromecast on the other side of the house from an access point and I'm pretty happy with it.

Browser seems OK on WRC clips once the stream has stabilised.

@Jase2985 - not had any need to respond yet.  Haven't activated the trial as I'm doing so tomorrow and then will see how well it works casting to my Shield TVs, but until then I've got nothing to add.

For spark sport people - are we likely to see an Android TV agnostic app released at some point or are you sticking only to Sony TVs even though their android hardware is underpowered?

Jase2985:

i notice @ockel and @Benoire have gone rather quiet

Nothing really to comment on, is there?

If Spark can't do a streaming library given its experience then there would be real concerns. So it can do back catalogues. Whoop. How many years has Lightbox been operating?

So far there has been SFA live sport and almost no audience to watch anything. Enuff said.

Your correct! The Sony TVs are well under-powered. They just about play 4k content on youtube, but sometimes turning the TV on from standby and getting a responsive experience is very slow and lags.

Just for clarity, even as a promotional offer for new customers, we're sending neither coke nor hookers to anyone's house. Even if we were (and we're not!), the purity would likely be best efforts and not guaranteed.

Cheers - N

Damn, why the hell was I being nice than 😅

It occurred to me that this is one of the few occasions where the same event is going to be covered by three streaming services; TVNZ OnDemand, Spark Sport and Sky will have the V8 sessions on Sky Go. Hell of a weekend for your first hit-out.

It will be interesting. I will switch between TVNZ OD and SS to see how they compare. Can do that as I have two iPads, but not same sizes. Duke can play on Sky then change HDMI to SS via casted app to compare also

Try to cast from a tablet or phone if you can. I.e. from the Android or iOS app, rather than the browser (until the player within the browser is supported) currently its tab casting only

That's odd as the app should be better than the browser. What RSP?

Will Chromecast work from my PC?

Could someone please point me in the direction of a Chromecast "How to"?
