Hdmi audio is hit and miss on this. Seems Intel still haven't got their crap together when a display gives both the consumer electronics and Vesa edid data. Nvidia card is fine on the same veon and soniq tvs. Not tried thru a reciever yet. May give my hdmi splitter a shot.

SepticSceptic:
Thanks for posting your experiences with the Pipo X7. Was considering this as a cheap WMC player / net streamer

Will follow with interest

I thought the Pipo was the greatest thing since sliced bread when I first tried it. Then the streaming problems started. I very much want to like this unit because it does make a great first impression. I still can't figure out what the source of the problem is, whether hardware or software. This one unit may just be faulty and all others work great, though that seems to happen an awful lot to me. I am confused because I can't seem to pinpoint whatever the issue is. Yesterday I tried to stream one of the free YouTube films as a test and that worked perfectly. Yet if I try to stream a series on ABC iview, or something on BBC iplayer, or a film on Hulu, I get this stupid problem with freezing every few frames that then gets progressively worse until the frozen image lasts for up to a minute or more before a few more frames stream and then it freezes again. Is this a memory problem? Is the GPU unable to keep up with the resolution being streamed? On all the above sites except YouTube the resolution cannot be adjusted down so I can't test it. I have no idea how to proceed with this.

The only good news is that the Chinese seller is genuinely trying to help, but communication is a bit of a problem. I have now uploaded a sample video with the freezes. The seller is going to study it and get back to me tomorrow. Whether this will solve anything I can't say.

I have found that dealing with Asian support, you need to be very specific, and as unconfusing as possible. English is not their second or even third language, and probably use google translate :-)
Itemise each step, what you have done, etc. no sentences running together. If you need to add a full stop, then you are better off starting a new line / item point.

Could it be your anti-virus scanner ? Malware ?

It worked OK,now not - what other software has been installed .? tried MSCONFIG and checked your startup items and services ?

Its a pity the subject title of the post didnt say Pipo x7 - there were a number of people on GZ that were discussing purchasing them.
It seemed from discussions that quite a few did.
Would be interesting to see if they have the same issue/have had the issue/have fixed the issue.

May be worth a new post with a better subject title?

EDIT: Have you checked that it is up to date with all windows updates?
Including 'optional' updates - often hardware drivers are optional...

Thanks goodness - when I read the title of this thread I thought the OP might have a serious urinary issue. My fears have been allayed upon learning the topic is something else entirely. I can now return to my lunch. Happy Friday everyone :)

In the Online Streaming Services sub-forum? You're doing it wrong. Try the Health and Fitness sub-forum for that kind of issue ;-)

Back on topic now: Have added 'Pipo X7' to the thread title.

Sorry about the unspecific title but I have been having a really bad time with this and my brain is fried. Initially I also wasn't completely sure that the problem was the Pipo's fault. We have a slow Internet connection and I wondered if that could somehow be related. I didn't know WHAT was going on and I was just crying out for help.

robjg63: Maybe this thread is worth reading:

http://freaktab.com/forum/tv-player-support/intel-based-tv-players/pipo-x7-tv-player/23463-problems-with-my-wired-network-connection

Had a quick look thru the thread - a couple of items that the OP could try:

1) External Power, like this: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/12V-2-5A-AC-DC-Power-Supply-Cord-2-5-Amp-12-Volt-2500mA-Adapter-Charger-AU-Stock-/130973389278?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_15&hash=item1e7e9f51de

2) Use the Windows Drivers for video, as opposed to the intel drivers

Can you successfully play a number of HD movies etc from a local network source ?

Considering that the task manager barely shows any effort, it could well be a slow internet connection - were you able to play the same internet streams on another device ?

I don't have a local network source I can easily stream from. I did try playing files from a flash drive just to test the GPU. I also streamed the same films to my desktop and that worked without problem. I even tried streaming films to both the desktop and the Pipo at the same time to test the connection. The Pipo struggled as always while the desktop didn't even seem to notice the difference. So it's not like there isn't enough bandwidth. Nothing about this makes any sense to me.

It certainly could - what sort of Internet connection do you have (ADSL, VDSL, cable?) and what do you mean by "slow"?
Please be specific.

We have RBI wireless, usually around 2-3 mB/s though actual download speeds are usually under 1 mB/s and often down to just 300-400 kB/s. I have a speed monitor installed and it jumps around a lot. However, I eventually ruled that out as a possibility because downloading the same streams on my desktop are perfectly okay, no problems at all. I even tried downloading two streams simultaneously, one on the desktop and one on the Pipo and the desktop stream was fine. This has made me conclude that the speed of our connection cannot be the problem. It has to lie elsewhere. If I am wrong about that, then I really don't understand anything about this at all.

I'm currently watching a HD streaming video on cable.
My average streaming rate is 0.5 MB/s, sometimes rising to 2.5 MB/s - the absolute limit of your connection on a good day.

I think we have the answer to your problem - HD streaming and RBI wireless don't mix.
You probably got a better result on your PC because it had more RAM.

EDIT  My streaming rate revised downwards
