I wouldn't.

There are very few films I care enough about not to be prepared to wait for it to come out on blu ray or (more likely) whatever streaming service or pay tv I am subscribed to at the time.

For the few I do really care about (1-3 a year), I would rather make a nice night out with friends (Gold Lounge, Dinner somewhere nice, few craft beers) than sit at home to watch.

And, honestly, my backlog of unwatched films is ridiculous. So waiting isn't really a problem.

Lots of people pay around $75 for new release movies at home. It's about the cost of an internet plan from an ISP.

I'd only do it if it entitled you to a copy to own once it comes out to buy, or at least 50% off.

I love going to the movies with my kids, but I do resent the fact that by the time you've bought 4 tickets to see it, and then later bought the Blu-Ray / Digital Copy, you've blown $90-100 on a movie.

I would pay that. me and my son in the lux seats cost $75ish with popcorn/drinks.

$75 for a movie day of release, hell yeah.

I remember, as a dirt poor student, smuggling snack food and drinks from the convenience store nearby into the cinema under my jacket back in the day. It was vastly cheaper (less than half the cost) of buying from the cinema vendor. We were never sure if it was allowed or not, hence the smuggling.

I for one hope that they get a handful of customers to keep this going....

...because then there will be HD rips out of new movies will be available instead of terrible 'cams'.

A. Absolutely not - no matter how good the movie.

If I had a $200,000 home cinema with a huge screen (which I don't) with an audience of 20, perhaps I would consider it - but probably not.

But it's not aimed at that it's aimed at the average viewer of about 2.3 people. No doubt for unlimited viewing you would need a public performance license or the like..

by unlimited i meant a family of 4+.

Being able to watch, when and where you want, ability to pause if needed etc. $75 for day of release streaming to home is a good deal. Yes it doesn't make sense if watching by yourself, and I wouldnt watch it by myself. However, I would use it with 2 or more people (2 people with snacks can easily cost $75).

sure its not for everyone, but movies arent cheap and the food is really expensive these days.

You don't need to be a dirt poor student to see the sense in doing that; the wife and I still do it.

I would expect there to be an embedded watermark of some sort (not visible during normal viewing) that would show which exact subscriber this was ripped from and the companies would then follow up against that subscriber.

But yeah, I also thought about that possibility.

Not to mention a really, really idiotic amount of salt. In the 'good old days' (when I was young), they applied the salt and butter when you ordered the popcorn and you could specify what you wanted. Now everything is prefab one size fits all. Maybe this belongs in the small things that bother you thread.
