maybe its my old eyes but I signed up for the trial and looking at their catalogue the content available in NZ seems very light or am I doing something wrong

Yes, afaik it's presently limited to amazon originals plus maybe a handful of other shows/movies? This and the lack of an android tv app could make this less appealing than netflix for example.

There is an Android app, it's in the store. I downloaded it last night, and like many others am disappointed by the lack of Chromecast support. The Samsung app also isn't showing up in the NZ store yet, and given how Samsung seems to operate here I won't hold my breath for it. I'll have a good browse around the content over the weekend (while I'm on the free 7 day trial) and see what they've got. before I decide whether to keep it or not. Can't see myself buying yet another device to connect to either of my TV's though.

No Android TV app though. The playstore app is a pita to use on a tv without touchscreen support or a mouse :(

Plus, The Grand Tour legitimately.

Questions, is there an Xbox One app, or PS3/4 etc?

Does any current smart TV support this Amazon TV Service?

How will people be viewing this service?

There is this, if its up to date...

I've got it working fine on my 2016 Samsung 4K TV. The App was called Amazon Video though, not Prime. But once I added it as an app and clicked on it went straight to Amazon Prime Video, I signed in an all is fine.

I'll stick with my US Amazon Prime account I think as NZ content will be small.

How can you change your Prime account to the US one? I have a US centred Amazon account (rather than Amazon Australia). When I signed up for the free trial this morning I presumed it would be under the US Amazon site, there was no option to choose the territory.

Most likely works like Netflix.  Just need a DNS service to access the US content..

Thanks guys.

It's still not showing up for me so I decided to have a look at the compatibility list. I have a UA48H5500 - it isn't on the list (which explains no app) although it's a 2014 TV. My 2011 Sony Bravia KDL-46EX720 is though, go figure. Having no success getting the Sony set up as a particular Sony site isn't loading up. Not looking good for me continuing with Amazon so far.

Is Amazon [Instant] Video available in NZ now as well as Prime Video? There are some things I want to watch that will probably never be on NZ streaming services (Simpsons, South Park) that I am happy to buy outright. I've just tried though and got an error message about needing a US credit card.

All seasons of Southpark and a selection of the most recent season of the Simpsons are on Hulu if you're willing to give them a shot?

Isn't it a 30 day trial as shown on this page? https://www.amazon.com/gp/video/primesignup Or do NZ only get a 7 day one?

It comes up with Amazon Prime Video for me, and the page title says

Amazon.com Sign up for Prime Video

Enjoy unlimited streaming of movies and TV shows. Anywhere, anytime.

Start your 30-day free trial

Watch instantly on Fire HD, Amazon Fire TV, game consoles, smart TVs, mobile phones and other streaming devices.

If it is for Prime, does that also include Prime Video, and we get a 30 day free trial instead of just 7 days for stand alone Prime video? It is a bit confusing from Amazon.

Looks OK, but lack of chromecast support is very annoying.

And I wouldn't expect it to ever come - so that people buy their fire sticks etc, Amazon won't sell chromecasts on their site (they said they didn't want people to get confused and buy the wrong device by mistake).

Although they actually don't sell Fire TV Sticks to NZ (or at least they didn't). Not unless you buy one and use youpost to ship it to NZ. Same with Fire tablets. So it is odd that they launch such a service targeting NZ, but it isn't able to be easily played on a TV. Has anyone airplayed it over an Apple TV, or is it restricted from doing that?

Can anyone with  Fire TV which they imported from the US confirm whether it works with the new NZ version of Prime Video?

Yeah Im with you. Apart from the fact you don't get free shipping, music or ebooks is the video streaming content the same as amazon prime?
