ATV4 is awesome the way it lets apps from different regions co-exist on the home screen without having to log in and out of different iTunes accounts. It's gotten to the point where my old HTPC is never switched on because there's now an app for every service I watch. The last piece of the puzzle was TVNZ OnDemand, which means I barely even watch normal broadcast TV anymore.

How does this work? My main iTunes account is NZ region. Do I need to create another account and sign-in with that to download apps only in the UK store?

On ATV do apps from other regions auto update? I remember when I had loaded apps on my iPhone that were not available in the region my App Store account was set to they wouldn’t update.

Yep, I now have US, UK and NZ AppleID’s and a few years back collected some extra older ATV2s and simply have three connected on different HDMI channels and appropriately named... as the 2’s are only 720p, it’s getting a little long in the tooth now, but being able to switch at will and use all the features equally easily from any store made it fully worthwhile so far... though I definitely notice when I’m on the ‘main use’ ATV3 with full HD 1080p too!

now that ATV4 has local memory again, I’ll probably trade up when I eventually justify the cost of a 4K TV 🤔

eracode: I have been looking at getting an ATV too and the only benefit I can see for us is that, if you’re in the Apple ecosystem like us, it makes it very easy to show your holiday snaps on the telly - straight from any iDevice. That’s cool ‘n all but not enough yet to convince me to get one. As you say, all the streaming apps are already on our smart telly.

We have a Samsung TV that is less than 5 years old. Its already lost several smart TV apps that I used to use, like TVNZ, Youtube etc.

If removing apps isn't irritating enough, they usually scroll notifications about removing the apps weeks before its removed. So next time I would like a good screen without any "Smarts".

BTW: The Apple TV4 is the best multimedia purchase I have done in a decade.

The Apple TV4 will allow you to stop using multiple devices to use those accounts, I have NZ, Aus, UK, American and Norwegian accounts all on the same device, with apps for TV channels from all those countries.

Just been looking at prices of ATV 4K here and overseas. We’re going overseas shortly and I thought maybe I could save a few $ buying one when we’re away.

At NZ$249 the 32GB model is considerably cheaper here than buying in several other countries - after credit card currency conversion, obviously. This surprised me.

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

I was toying with the idea of buying a new TV recently - our screen is only 32 inch, 720p, not even LED backlit! - and all the higher end models invariably seemed to be smart TVs. Although I would prefer not to, it seems to me like we would have to buy a smart TV to get a good screen, and just not use the smart functions.

Personally, I am now cautious about buying electronics and camera stuff overseas unless the price difference is 30% or more.

I am surprised at how many times I have to claim warranty for electronic items that I bought. Things are just not made with quality of yester year. Locally bought items have local warranty and CGA protection whereas overseas bought items could be a real problem when things went wrong. Shipping alone could incur significant costs.

Although I mentioned buying overseas above, I do largely agree with you. However recently I bought a speaker overseas (and brought it back with me) which cost me NZ$210 - they’re $399 here.

This is a good point. There is always a trade-off. I buy a lot of small things overseas but would think long and hard before making a purchase over a couple hundred dollars. I have had a lot of devices fail. For some things it is definitely worth paying extra for the CGA.
