FFWD and RWD functions remain poor compared to Sky.

Poor on SS or poor on Chromecast?

SS with Chromecast. At least that was my experience as of a couple of weeks ago. Having said that FFWD and RWD on most streaming platforms is rubbish esp for viewing live sport. I am unsure why technically and if it's "fixable".

I have been away for a couple of weeks and used Kayo which was incredibly better, but perhaps they fixed it. My trial ran out 3 days ago, I'll need to sign up again to see if it's better.

How did you watch Kayo? With CC?

Ideally for the RWC there will be an Apple Tv app and an Android TV app, I assume the latter has a remote. Yes, FF/RW on streaming is rubbish, but if the FF/RW with SS has thumbnails, that would make the UX pretty good.  It would then be on a par with Sky ease of use

If one is only interested in the RWC, and so buys only that package, how much leadtime will I be given before first kickoff to check I have a working platform?

Well, with Sky, most Kiwi matches have an hour of warm up discussions. I am unsure about pool matches of non NZ countries, usually 5-10 minutes. Pretty sure anthems are played. It's not a huge amount of time.

Kayo with CC when I was in Australia, native app on Shield TV in NZ.

Given the last 2 RWC's I watched every minute of every game, being able to FFWD the setups to set peices saves a huge amount of time, and with the current streaming FFWD I think it's going to be a nightmare.

Kayo has Thumbnails. It's ok, but not great. Netflix Thumbnails are awful.

You could try it now (I believe first month still free)....unsure how long that will continue for....so you could wait for julyish and if no trial then pony up for the 1st month.  By then they should be on most platforms they're going to support  (hopefully it wont be 2 days before the first match before rolling out - like they did with the f1).

Ok. Lets hope the native apps are on time as a remote is key.

@freitasm lets make that......  I think Spark is overestimating peoples capacity to use Chromecast - some I know can't even use a Smartphone.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

Funny, I decided to suspend my Spark Sports account last night, even though I'm only halfway through the free trial. There's just nothing to hold my attention.

With the AB's matches being broadcast FTA I won't be resuming my account at any time soon. I don't care about the hour delay, other team matches etc., but if you're a real rugby head it seems like good value - even if you only sign up a few days beforehand to save on the cost of the monthly subscription.

It's gonna be a bit rough on the rural folk (and others) with no recent infrastructure though.

Edit: last sentence should say decent, not recent :-D

You will have instant access to old RWC matches and interviews to test your platform.

I agree the value proposition isn't bad, if it delivers.

I agree that less people will be able to watch this than if it were on Sky.

I kept an eye on my late Auntie a few years back, she was in care. She made me get her a phone, a feature phone. What a nightmare to use!

Replays or testing older content will not be a very valid test. Live streaming requires good latency and you may only discover you have a problem when you watching something live. I suggest watching some live content to make sure your setup is working correctly.

A couple of my thoughts straight away:

If I pay the $60 now, what do I get now?

Which sort of leads on to the second point, why does the price increase as the tournament gets closer? It's not a flight, where tickets gets more expensive as the flight sells out, it's a streaming service.

If they want me to pay $60 now, then they need to have the apps available on the smart TV's now.

And i love the irony of if you don't choose to pay for the streaming service from spark, you can watch the sem's and finals live. And if you are still a Sky customer, you more than likely will watch the FTA coverage through your sky box.
