r0bbie: Hey the movies i watched last night DID COUNT TOWARDS MY DATA CAP :(

Un-metered data from Quickflix for Orcon users does not kick in until May 1st.

"Even better, for Orcon customers, from May 1, the service will be zero-rated. That means you’ll be able to watch away without it affecting your data caps."

Radiotron: anyone registered tried signing in with a PS3? UID and pwd works fine on PC, same info does not sign me in with PS3, grr. Did I miss something? No, no new firmware updates to PS3, it thinks it is happy and up to date...

QF mentioned last night online that the PS3 plugin was available for NZ, however they were having some issues with people logging in via the PS3 and were working on it.

Probably to ensure QF systems are running properly etc and gives Orcon time to tweak settings I guess :)

Well, Slingshot are unmetering from day 1, so I'm guessing they made a better deal with Quickflix to get the first month to themselves.

Content is served via Akamai - so should be coming from Mayoral Drive at the least (if not closer).

Where does Akamai have kit in NZ these days?

I had a look at this last night.  It haas potential but the content available is shockingly poor!  Charging pay per view for movies released in 2004 claiming they are new releases is a joke, and what 8 TV shows, all of which are really old.  Poor poor poor.

If Netflix could launch here and get zero rated, it'll kill Sky.  Quickflix as it stands now, not a chance.

How much content they can bring in, I'm guessing will be upon projected demand and forecasted sales figures and demand will be effected by content also so we'll have to see how it goes

I spoke with their customer support team today.  They claim that they will be adding titles to the list each week most likely as they gain the rights to broadcast them.
There an issue with connecting Sony products at present. I tried to register my Sony TV but keep getting an error when I try and enable Quickflix.  The support guy claimed they were onto Sony and hoped to sort it out ASAP.

You have more than one?

TBH though was speaking to someone in the industry today about the cost of national backhaul which is still prohibitive. UFB isn't going to really help this although the greater demand may increase competitiveness. To get HD streaming a norm with no cost attached by the ISP the content provider would have to be in pretty much every region?

I took up the opportunity of the free trail, but cancelled the subscription before the first billing because of the lack of titles. They don't appear to have added much since.

A couple of interesting points from the trial....

* Not every movie that you see online is available on all devices. I wanted to watch a Sean Bean movie that I had seen on the web, but for the life of me I could't find it on the PS3. QF confirmed that it was available to be watched on the PS3

* When I rang to cancel they tried to do a lot to get me to change my mind...offering free months or a reduced rate for a while...so it might pay to threaten to quit at first to see if they'll do the same Smile

I think the PS3 interface is really poor....a lot of the genre options display no movies, and it's hard to find movies easily.

Cheers, Phil

So I've been watching a bit on quiclflix this month and all the data used has not counted as unmetered.
Any one else seeing this?
