mentalinc: I was really impressed with fanpass. It didn't buffer or break up all day like skygo does regularly. I will buy again during summer for cricket.

^ this. Wont pay the price for a season worth of races, but well worth it for the day...just hassle free. worked well and quality was decent.

Well, I ended up missing the last hour or so thanks to Sky not being able to manage their system again....... approx 5.45pm SkyGo started failing - was having to refresh every 3 mins or so.  Gave up.

Glad I wasnt paying them for it.... appears lots of others had same issue.

First Bathurst in 20 yrs that Ive missed the end of :(

Everybody knows that SkyGo is crap, especially during popular events which create high demand.

You saved $15 by not paying for FanPass but missed the last hour of the race ... a false economy?

Bottom line is fanpass now offers a viable option for one off events.  About time and there's onto a winner there I reckon.
Chromecast integration is not to be overlooked as it makes setup very easy, and for me at least gives a better image than possible framerate issues from a MacBook to my TV.

720p only, room for improvement there.

Acestream is torrent based streaming, so keep an eye on your data use, as you're not only receiving, but now seeding back out to others also.

Sky Go is not suitable for popular events, but does ok for non heavily loaded options, like an F1 race at midnight for example.

Given so much content is often free to air in some country of the world, maybe it's time to consider a VPN or equivalent service.
Examples being the Rugby World Cup free on ITV in the UK etc.
League and V8 races tend to be streamed to countries outside of the Australasia also.

Agreed.  Another satisfied customer of FanPass.
Had it streaming for the entire coverage on Sunday with no glitches or buffering issues and on 720p all day.
The only minor thing I noted was that it was approximately somewhere between 1 minute and 1 lap behind the main Sky coverage.  Not a major other than when I was chatting to a friend who was watching it on Sky itself. Had to suggest not telling me anything about the final lap.  :-p
Will definitely consider it for other significant sporting events I'm interested in.  Pity the WRC rally coverage is over several days each round though.

Fanpass worked perfectly all day, absolutely no issues.

I wonder since you are paying a premium for the fanpass that sky puts more priority in keeping the fanpass streams up and running....

Where SkyGo is more of a supplementary service to a STB.

SkyGo and FanPass use completely separate platforms. FanPass is Neulion I think, managed separately from Sky.

Yeah, SkyGO has worked fine for me for the past two years for Bathurst, and was perfect yesterday until an hour out from the end.

Was a little hesitant about using Fanpass this year, as its "new" to NZ, but going by peoples experiences, Ill be using Fanpass next year :)

It's new to NZ, but has survived the likes of the Bledisloe cup test and the RWC games to date.
It's not new as a service though, only in getting the feeds from Sky really.
It's up to 4K for some American sports, so it's well developed, and sky could opt to bump up to 1080 on it, but I wonder if they'll keep to their usual tactics of crippling other products to maintain their premium offering.

I had the same problem.  Every 3 - 15 minutes it's need a restart.  But I managed to put up with it and catch the end.  I thought it my brand spanking new UFB connection causing me issues, but I could hear my son on netflix and he had no issues.

@DemiseNZ Hi Gavin, sorry about that, there was a technical issue affecting some customers which has now been resolved.

You get what you pay for.   No sympathy here.
You mooched off your mate so it didnt cost you a thing (begs the question why you didnt just watch it at his place) to start with.  You watched 6 hours and derived significant utility - and then when you didnt get the last hour that you didnt pay for you have the audacity to complain.  Whoop.

Are you soooo cheap that you wouldnt stump up $3/hour (at most) to watch something that you are really keen on?
And you would have got the first 2 semi-finals of the RWC for free if you had subscribed to FanPass on the day.

Freeloaders like you add to the traffic that make it hard for the genuine people that couldnt be at home to watch it - bet they appreciate that.

BTW, it was a fantastic finish in glorious HD.  Live and uninterrupted.

Gee, Mr Perfect there.

Not everyone likes Bathurst.  So me sitting at my mates place would'nt have been an option, he offered me his SkyGO account instead.

I hate rugby. So Fanpass offering me rugby as a sweetner would mean nothing.

Cant honestly tell me that you have paid for every bit of media you've ever watched.

Actually, yes I think I can honestly tell you that I've paid for every bit of media I've watched.  And listened too as well, I think.  I find it morally and ethically wrong to exploit the rights of others so choose to pay for things.

So you dont like rugby, so your cost-per-viewing-hour wouldnt be lowered by having the RWC semi's in there.  It still doesnt explain why you, as a Bathurst fan, couldn't pay the price of 1 bottle of wine or a dozen beers or half an Auckland main at a restaurant for the Big Race.

Would you forgo anything to get the utility from watching 7 hours of motorsport (and I'm assuming that you're not a real fan and not including Top10 Shootout or any qualifying or practice sessions over the weekend)?
