I said this on another thread, it also is relevant here

This is interesting  A study by Ovum analyst Tony Gunnarsson cited at the recent NAB trade show noted that the majority of consumers will subscribe to only 2.25 streaming services, leaving many players out in the cold.

We are looking at 6 or 7 services, 2.25 are used on average per consumer. Yes, some players will be out in the cold, or will they. If the 2.25 is relatively evenly spread, then all of them will be out in the cold. If 2.25 is about 1/3 of the SVOD mainstream services, then 2.25 is like the size of the market suddenly reducing by 67% . The other factor is if the 7 services have a nice spread of very cool content, then the average consumer is foregoing 2/3 of what they would like to watch.

In short, the growth of streaming will be a fail for providers and for consumers

Yea that seems about right. I myself will probably sub to Netflix,Amazon Prime,Disney+ and maybe Hulu if it gets bundled with Disney+ with the international launch.

Docos are what holds me to Sky. If Disney has NatGeo, anybody know who has History and Discovery legal to NZ?

Netflix - $15/ month. . . disney $15??... amazon... $16 per month...... up to $45 a month in subs, and no sports.

We live in a golden age though, so much good content is being produced.

Disney is $10/month or $100/year here in NZ.

freitasm: Launching November 19 in New Zealand.

Fantastic to see NZ among the very short list of countries getting this at launch. Very excited, $9.99 per month sounds like great value.

Also looking forward to an eventual NZ version of Hulu which sounds likely considering Disney has signalled its intentions to launch this internationally also.

I agree, as its much more accessible, but what I see is that for every new good content, there is 10 fillers. Saying we have 4000 titles is better then saying we have 2000

Sad to see no sign of support for Fire TV. Don’t really want to have to plug the Apple TV back in.

Man, so I'm paying $13.50 for Netflix and Lightbox, and then $6 for Amazon Prime Video, and now I'm gonna get stung for $10 for Disney+ (which realistically I'll probably get). I guess I might ditch Prime Video?

$100 for the year seems pretty reasonable to get at Disney's substantial library, hopefully NZ isn't hamstrung by slow or non releasing of key titles. I would suspect that this has been in the pipeline long enough for "exclusive rights" on titles to be expiring at or near the November launch date and hopefully NZ can get a similar schedule of viewing to other areas (its a highly likely reason why the international rollout would be staggered, why launch in a market where your offering is diluted by other services offering your products already).

It doesn't take long before all the little monthly subscriptions start to add up to what was being paid to a single provider before (or more)

Netflix $15-20/mth depending on plan

Lightbox $12(?)

Neon $ 20

Skysport Now $ 40

Disney+ $10

Amazon Prime $ 12 (mentioned above)

Total $ 109 - 114/mth

Granted, many will likely subscribe to 1-2 at any given time but even 2 "TV / Movie" oriented + Sports is still $75-80 per month, a little more palatable I guess.

Add in Spark Sport if they play sports that you like, another $20.

The complaint with Sky's prices still exists elsewhere. Like Sky we still have to pay for stuff we don't want

This may be the nail in the coffin of Sky multi room in our household, and possibly Sky Movies as well. We are currently auditing what we actually watch, and when. Certainly the savings from ditching multi room alone pays for a couple of streaming services.

At the moment I am waiting to see what comes of Sky’s Puck streaming device and what Disney is actually going to offer here.

Great news. Surprised we're getting it so soon. Wasn't it expecting it till 2020. Its quite possible we're getting it before the UK because of Disney's Sky deal. I thought Disney's deal with Sky here would hold things up too but maybe the contract was so small they bought it out? Or they just wont put the films on the service that a part of the current deal.
