Not a streaming related issue, but did anyone else get annoyed with the in game replays last night? They always seemed to show the play just up the part you wanted to re-see, and then they would cut back to live.
frednz:Now, for Spark and others to say that only a very few people experienced poor video issues has to be nonsense.

I'm with you on anecdotal evidence.
The main article on stuff.co.nz has a poll. Currently sitting as below
"How was the stream?"
It was great = 13%
Couple of problems but OK = 32%
Lots of Problems = 55%
So much for Spark's "a small percentage of customers had issues" 😂
The Spark Sport facebook page has hundreds and hundreds of complaints
Panasonic 65GZ1000, Onkyo RZ730, Atmos 5.1.2, AppleTV 4K, Nest Mini's, PS5, PS3, MacbookPro, iPad Pro, Apple watch SE2, iPhone 15+

Yeah, they were a bit average and probably the key area that the host broadcaster needs to up their game on. Though in general these big events do have less granular replays, whereas with Sky NZ producing and broadcasting the games usually, they have full control over the entire stack, to the point that the director can bring up replays that relate to the current discussion in the commentary box, and of course replays that are more detailed based (tiny knock-on missed, epic back hand pass etc) rather than just broad (full reply of a try).
Sumo even referenced this during the broadcast last night -- the lack of control over replays.

Spark UFB 100/20 here in AK so on Chorus.
I had 3 occurrences using my Panasonic 2017 tv crashing and restarting for Japan vs SA and Japan vs Russia match so decided to use Chromecast streaming over Wifi from PC for NZ vs SA. I didn't have any issue with tv reboots.
The picture quality was really good, better than Duke. I had 1 glitch where it froze and kept replaying the same 1s a few times, that corrected itself after about 8s.
Later in the match, I started to get resolution drops that made it pretty unwatchable at it's lowest rate, it would drop then come back to perfect quality.
I suspect there is most likely a few problems going on. Some device issues, buffering etc, but as some people had no or little problems it's unlikely to be the main feed. Could be CDN distribution issues, could be sporadic contention or access handover issues but with the number of users reported that seems unlikely, the SP networks will have prepared for far more numbers than this. I think as it got worse as the game went on and then started to improve in last 20mins when some switched over to Duke, it does appear to be an issue related to number of streams, but where.
I'm sure things will improve as the tournament goes on.

One thing is bugging me... If it was a problem with the "international streaming partners" why did it not affect everyone?
Maybe people that weren't affected weren't running 1080p 60hz, or were watching delayed not live

Last night i watched most of the live game on my slow rural ADSL (5-6Mbs) and it was watchable on Chromecast 2 on 65" telly - definitely better than the dodgy streams ( and Rugbypass) I've used in the past.
I'm guessing that the framerate is cut to meet the low bandwidth so action is not smooth but definitely watchable will see how it goes with AB v SA tonight
That's so good to hear that 5-6 MBs is cutting it and some people in rural NZ are not totally disadvantaged. Please post after tonights game as this will be the real pressure test.
I watched on an Apple TV (Wireless 5Gz although router is less than metre away, not hard wired as I swap to other VPN Wifi routers) via Spark fibre and it was seamless. Switched over to TVNZ feed to compare and thought the Spark feed looked sharper. Have also tested on Chromecast on phone to Nvidia shield and Chrome browser running on Linux Mint both were equal 7/10, Apple TV was the winner and gets a 10/10.
As requested - watched AB's live last night - at neighbours slow ADSL this time- Watched the whole game uninterrrupted although had 2-3 seconds now and again with blurry low res picture but always came right with a change of camera angle.
I got my pass free with new phone so i'm pretty happy with the outcome!

Yes, unfortunately the coverage is being run by the tournament so replays and what shots they show are out Spark Sport's control
Be great if Spark Sport surveyed their customers to check on their ‘experience’. It would need to include how they watched it (ISP, connection type, wired or wireless, and streaming device). Otherwise the information is anecdotal.

Problem is it's not like the next game is weeks away. As I understand, it's on tonight and after last night's experience people will be hoping for better.
Spark Sport still experiencing problems now? Watching the post-match conference from yesterdays match and the audio is completely out of sync! #sigh

I would imagine they do and that is why they switched to the simulcast, QoE stats should be generated by the iStreamPlanet player.
