Not to be discussed here but I've taken other measures to watch Melbourne at least. This ridiculous carry on from Spark must be driving a few in the same direction.

What ridiculous carry on?  Sure there are issues with casting it appears and some of the longer term issues bother me and may affect whether I subscribe to the service or not when it comes to those races, but the reality of the performance yesterday was enough for me to keep using it; plus its also free as a trial so no harm & its also on TVNZ should things mess up.  In a few races time, these issues need to have been resolved but this race has enough coverage to avoid going to an offshore service.

Re the VOD asset delay, I wonder if flagging the event as still 'in progress' until the VOD has been deployed as an option?  That way someone trying to watch 1 hour after if finished would be able to watch from the start of the cached live feed.

I missed the start but chose watch from start, casting from iPad Air 1 to Panny plasma. Paused every now and then for tea reasons. It was top quality and almost flawless. There was one glitch for a part second (not the occasional under bridge which is normal) Quality was bit better than Sky Sports, I assume that's progressive vs interlaced. Butter smoothen judder. No casting issues. At the end the screen became static, went to a  blue tech page for a while, then F1 Show came on.

Will watch from start give the same experience as live? I.e. if there was a slight glitch on live, will that be there from watch from start?

Very busy (child sports) weekend for us so I’ve only been sporadically watching both live stream and VOD of Qualy.
Running iPad & iPhone app through CC Ultra to TV.
Yesterday (Sat) I lost everything from cast POV - could view in iPad but not cast. Ended up factory resetting the CC and starting again. Can’t tell but might have been local. That Spark Huawei router thing is iffy IMHO.

Anyway, have viewed some of qualy VOD today - picture quality mostly good but at times seems too much contrast or similar - very stark imagery almost cartoony. This is the case esp with interviews etc. but not with car motion viewing.

Also slight sound/vision mismatch again during interviews - v noticeable when drivers’ prerecorded remarks about Charlie Whiting aired. Can’t tell if sound/vision synched during car segments as voice over cars - simply can’t tell.

Q. How do you “force” picture quality to 1080?

Thanks, Don

Care to explain what the ridiculous carry on is?

I know Friday wasn't an ideal start (with world feed rather than SkyUK, and lack of commentary at the start of FP1). I too have a contingency, but the stream quality on that (global) service on Friday was not nearly as good as Spark Sport. (lots of glitches and black screen)

The Saturday performance for Spark Sport was very good IMO, the stream was excellent quality (If not casting) and the right program feed. My only major disappointment was the limitation to one active screen which is not great (especially when you need to cast to the big screen).

There has been some chatter here about casting. Ive rewatched Quali just now, watched it yesterday, All casted, all fine. The testing I've done internally, casting was always fine, perfectly reliable. be interesting to see what the cause is.

My setup is Spark Fibre 100/20, routing by 659B in garage, wifi off, ethernet feed to Apple Extreme in living room, that runs the wifi. AC, one metre to Chromecast Ultra. Using AC. iPad Air 1 CCU to TV. I know Benoire uses Android so cannot compare with that.

If those with CC reliability issues can summarise their setup, that may help hone in on the cause.

Ive not noticed contrast issues, or cartoony. Can you recall exactly when on the quali feed?

The interviews talking about Charlie, early on with Ross Brawn was in sync, mid quali in sync, end was in sync. The drivers words on Charlie seemed to be ever so slightly out of sync and that increased, but it was minor. Ive often noticed the in room interviews to be like that actually.

My experiences so far have been really good.

  1. Home connection - 2degrees near-gigabit UFB into a Mikrotik RB760iGS router, Ubiquiti UniFi 2.4ghz access point for Wifi, generation one chromecast. No issues casting, gen 1 chromecast sometimes will sometimes won't go to 60FPS at 1080P but for the most part it does, probably due to where things are in the house and being wedged into the back of a large metal AV receiver. Pretty well flawless during Friday
  2. Parents connection - Spark 100/20 UFB into a Ubiquiti AirCube AC router, ChromeCast Ultra over Ethernet. 60FPS no problem, flawless, parents super impressed, dad just happy he got to watch the F1 quali and is stoked I'm heading over there this evening so he can watch the race.

Only real glitches I have seen I would've put down to the supplied feed glitching as we all know it can sometimes do. All in all, very impressed for a beta.

It was early'ish on ... not exactly sure when TBH.  Paul what'isname (the scottish racing driver they have on commentary) was walking with the woman (what's her name?  God) through the grassy surrounds of the outer track.  It was a very wide angle lens and as I say they looked odd, like they'd been cut out of another picture and pasted over the background.  Let's not worry about it, because ...

The rest of it was if fact very good.  The actual qualy session (on track and in pits and crowd scenes) was very good.  The after interviews were very good.

Off to a good start peeps.

And, not a Spark issue but any help would be welcome with this puzzle ...

I had to reset my CC Ultra as mentioned in earlier post and now Google Home has it twice.  One is live (the latest installation of it) the other not.  How can I get rid of the redundant device?  I tried by deleting the room (family room) and now I have this ridiculous situation of a device that isn't in a room.

In the Android app, select the inactive device, click on the Cog Wheel (top right), and then select 'Remove device' (last menu option)

Cheers. I'll look for that later, too close to build up now, see if I can spot it.

The TV supports the drm and all in web? That's actually quite impressive.
