So a little bit of competition eh, now although we can't compare the packages directly this is less of a monopoly than before as we have a choice of providers for some of the football. It's just a shame that my club, Man Utd (before anyone says anything I'm born and bred that side of Manchester), hasn't be confirmed as I do not wish to pay for a poor quality online service.

I notice that the Sky statement is that the games are delayed until 1pm on Sunday, what happens to the Sunday games? I used to record and get up at 6am to watch before work otherwise I'll know the score and then I'm less likely to watch. Will they be delayed till the evening or will I get to watch at 6am as I used to?

Chris

It's confirmed, email came out this morning at sky HQ.

same day that PLP went live as well :P
don't think they will be to happy with us.

As an Arsenal fan this is the best news I have heard in a long time! I already pay for Sky Sports HD so now for no extra cost I can watch every Arsenal game in HD and 5.1 sound. On top of that it looks like we will be getting the FA cup games as well :) It might not be live but I always watched it delayed anyway.

Thankyou Sky.

With this news the chances of Colliseum failing have increased massively!!! :)

For me this gets 4 out of 5 "Benoire Bah"s. Last year I saw more free highlights of the top 4 than I could stomach on various news shows, why would I want to raise my indigestion levels any further

I'm pretty sure both Sky and Sommet Sports are looking for the rights to one more club each, so it seems pretty likely that one of them will get Man United, and the other will probably get Liverpool.

Delayed coverage belongs to be in the history channel.

I rather watch my games live at a lower quality.

Lower than SD belongs in the history channel.

Here's hoping Sky get Man Utd as I don't think I could stand watching football in SD again!

then you must love this, since you now have the choice between both.

you can get sky sports and watch delayed in HD or PLP and watch live in SD.

Isn't competition great?

While I wish Sky Sports had access to the full package they had last year (not delayed mainly) this is as close to true competition that we will ever have given the nature of the rights. You can choose which content package you want.

I feel with Sky offering the top teams in HD on the TV in a more traditional sense, PLP may struggle to get its numbers now...

I repeat my wish for a dedicated Sky Football channel separate from the SkySport bundle, $15ish a month and I'd be in

Yes, if you could buy it for online only or as part of your standard sub then I think that would satisfy everyone.

In which case they'll be forced to look at why they're failing, and they might stumble across this thread at geekzone.

IF, and its a big IF given the additional cost, PLP upped the bit rate, ideally 6mbps would be ideal as the nfl game pass at 4500 was still not great at 1080p, then I might consider it, really I want them to expose their connection APIs like netflix does for open source software...

Yeah, unfortunately I suspect this will hit them quite hard. It removes my reason for wanting to subscribe to PLP, I'll just watch it on Sky in HD since I already have Sky anyway. There will be those who want to see it Live no matter what, and those who want to follow teams that Sky/Sommet don't get, and they'll be the main audience for PLP I suspect. A shame, as that's probably a much smaller group than the previously-expected "Anyone who wants to watch a decent number of matches".
