MikeB4:  yep we all have Swiss bank accounts and drive to the Govt Precinct each morning in our Aston Martins

OMG!  Can you imagine what would happen if that was to become true?!?!?!

Thousand and thousands of library workers marching on parliament to protest the work load created by having to recataloge fiction books to nonfiction.

Farmers unable to repair tractors because of copyright

John Deere claiming that farmers aren’t allowed to tinker with their tractors and other farming equipment is not an “unfortunate side effect” of copyright monopoly legislation. It was the core idea, all the time, to prevent owners of property to exercise their normal property rights. That was the only possible way the copyright monopoly was even slightly maintainable into a digital environment.

Not only that, but Holy Copyright Infringement Batman!

Please do not copy and paste entire articles. IT IS THEIR WORK. I have posted a link to the original article and just one paragraph.

Madness, if true. There are so many legitimate uses for VPNs that have nothing to do with circumventing geoblocks.

A good example is law enforcement - police officers use VPN'S to connect their work issued phones/tablets to their information systems.

You missed this part of the article.

"The injunction power would only apply to online locations operated outside Australia"

So VPN's can still be used, but only on Australia services, which I guess would give only Austrailan IP address's.
Overseas ones can have a court injunction blocking access to them.

Another case, can only buy the service if it's in your own country, limiting who customers can buy off.

So you use your Aussie VPN to connect to an overseas proxy. It is just another game of whack-a-mole.

Ah, thats not an overreach at all. Blocking foreign LEGAL VPN services because they can be used to circumvent geo-blocking.

Welcome to the USSR. (Or, more correctly - to the world of the Chinese firewall)

I connect to a foreign VPN daily as part of my work.

My brother is a John Deere specialist and earns a damn good amount of money doing it. It is not child's play fixing these new tractors, everything is controlled by computers from the 24 speed gearbox, 13 L engine, 4wd system, A/C, throttle, brakes, traction controller, stability control, etc etc.

I doubt any NZ cow cocky would be able to repair anything in the software unless they have been certified as a JD repairer and paid the enormous amounts of money for the software required to access the systems, firmware updates, software updates, etc.

It's the same with cars, dealers have to buy the equipment to be able to reset error codes in ECU's. Really I suppose we are just buying a license to drive the vehicle we own. Australia is reviewing some of their laws as private mechanics might be limited to fixing basic wheel and tyre issues if they can't reset the ECU or access the fault codes to see what is wrong.

I know the Ford parts dealer I have seen recently wanted me to put the car through a service to diagnose a faulty brake light switch. $49 later I had the switch and reset the error codes myself with the tools I brought online for $100.

TPP might be a struggle for Obama to pass by the sound of it.

But this is way off topic, Up with streaming down with Geo-Blocking. Let people pay for the content or else, well you know what happens when the only options are free vs. paid.

What we're really talking about here is the attempted removal of 'coat tailing'.
