I've never actually suffered rain fade in the 8y of having sky in NZ and didn't get it in the UK either, and 2 minute regigging is awkward in an app as its hard to get back to where you where at the moment.

I agree, rain fade isn't a reasonable comparison.

I expect significantly more issues with streaming, simply because wireless isn't a reliable technology. Not all enhancements to technology are better in my view. For me, I'd rather have a solid viewing experience using older technology even at a slightly lower quality, than the convenience of new features and portability that isnt as reliable. Hopefully, Spark can do what they need to do to resolve what they have control over.

Watch the race yesterday....first time watching a full f1 race since the mid 90s.

Using an iPad to a chromecast.

Only had one issue where the chromecast seemed to stop (not sure if it was the lap 5 that people were talking about), but jumping in to the app I could see the stream going, and then there was a bit of weirdness in disconnecting the chromecast from the stream so I could start it again - see below.

The lap 5 issue was a glitch thats being looked into, and that can it seems, possibly jigger the casting. It was as though the CC got lost. I couldnt manage anything in the app so shut the app off and ended cast with GH and that was enough

Quotes within quotes I’m not quite sure who I’m quoting here.

I think/sense this is the same issue I experienced. After that lap 5 glitch (perhaps - may have been unrelated) I couldn’t control the position of the chromecast from the app. Could go back & forward in the app (iPad and iPhone) but the CC ignored me and continued to cast live.

Had a similar but not exactly the same overshoot/undershoot problem watching the prerace VOD later in the evening. Casting Martin’s gridwalk (from within that many hour asset) was a nightmare.

Can anyone explain the fix more clearly please? You did something in google home? I’m not a geek folks, an explanation in user’s terms is what I would cherish.

Many thanks, Don

Edit = spellcheck replacement (thanks Apple - prerace is not preface)

It's nothing to do with rights. In _very_ simple terms the platform treats live and VOD (Video on Demand) assets differently. It still allows viewers to seek within the live asset while it's active, but when the live event finishes, the video from the live event is repackaged into a VoD asset. I don't know how much work is done to the file between the 2 formats but it's not an instantaneous process I'm afraid.

Cheers - N

This may have been answered further in the thread but I am here in the thread so, are you able to clarify if this is a temporary thing or not? The way I watch sport indicates this could be a major pain if a 4 hour delay is going to be normal and ongoing?

Typically (with sky) I build around 15-30 minutes into my timeframes and watch what am recording on that delay. This allows me to fast forward long breaks in play, or ad's or what not. Given during RWC I will be watching each match, I also like to be able to fast forward a lot of set peice set ups so I can actually get through the days content each day. If I understand this correctly, this means if there is a continued 30 minute delay (as in I don't catch up inside the timeframe of the original live stream) I could potentially end up missing the last 20-30 minutes of a game, and then have to wait 4 hours to see how it ends?

I apologise if I have misunderstood.

My experience last night was that so long as you start the stream prior to the event finishing, and don’t disconnect you can watch the entire stream. Last night for example I started at about 7:45pm after sorting dinner and getting the kids to bed. But I was able to watch the stream until the end in app (iOS)with no issues. Aside from the lack of seek function during casting meaning I couldn’t cast.

That's good to know, I guess the problem is if you have an app or casting issue that causes a disconnect and you come back after the allotted time, then your screwed and you can't watch until VOD time?

Unfortunately at this stage yes.

But like I said earlier, I have every faith Spark Sport will work a solution; after all it is early days.

Was Sundays race available for replay immediately after it finished?

and is the next race exclusively on Spark sport or are they also giving to Duke to broadcast?

Wasn't immediately available, came up later on but not sure how long after.

Next race hasn't been confirmed yet... I'm more concerned about the VOD uptime, as the race stream will finish after 7am most likely but if I have an app crash sometime after I start watching at 5 or 6 then I will miss the rest of hte race until the vod asset is created and it will be disappointing... I'll reserve comments until that time as it will be speculation until the race event.

I think I'm starting to sound like a guy shouting in the back row, and everyone's just muttering about "that guy".

The comparison I would draw vis-a-vis Sky is that Sky comes along and sets-up your system, hands you a remote and it's all working.  And if something goes wrong you can ring them live and they can remotely reboot.

In most houses SS is being viewed on a home-setup system that is notoriously shonky at the best at times.  My kids are at me: "I can't get email, Netflix won't work" etc. etc.  You can never tell if it's a local or network problem.  Often it's the latter.  Sometimes it's local/DHCP or similar issues and things need to be rebooted.

I'm Spark and moderate/acceptable quality devices end to end.  I am not going to spend a fortune on my house electronics, but we have Fibre, Spark Huawei modem, a hub and Cat06 through the house, relatively (but not absolutely) modern PCs, iPads, phones, a couple of Apple Airport Extremes, etc.  And a brand new ChromeCast Ultra bought especially for this.  I would like a better wifi experience but don't know what to buy, and anyway the ethernet is pretty stable and fast (75-90 mbps).

The whole thing end to end is "a system" and that's what has to work.  Not the app, the in home experience.  And when you're watching favourite live sport (that you care about deeply for decades) with your mates/family, it must not go on the blink for hours, and it has to be controllable.  "Did you see that?", "no I nipped out for a pee".  "Oh, well here, look, I'll rewind".  Oh crap, no I wont, you can see that in 5 hours time.  No way!

On the plus side, I am trusting that Spark will have the capability to make this stable.  They are delivering good quality feed, and the app seems brilliant in "tech" environments like good PCs, and standalone phones/tablets that aren't driving other devices.

Now let's get it to work seamlessly in people's homes.

Thank you, rant over.

Is the general consensus that FF does a better job with the stream than Chrome, or has there been mixed experiences?

and surely linear feeds of ESPN and Eurosports will be added?

Eurosport might be a bit tricky. It's the only linear channel on the Fox Sport platform that isn't available on Kayo (including OD content), excluding the racing channels.

I've submitted a decent chunk of feedback to the help page but no confirmation email received, anyone else done so and got a confirmation email?  If yes, then perhaps it hasn't gone through and I'll resend it.

Got my feedback notification this just now with a super friendly email from Jasmine, lets see where Spark take us eh?

Chrome has had mixed experiences.

Quite a few posters here have had issues, i personally haven't had any - and i run a lot of plugins on my machine.

in general, you certainly are better off going with FF as it is a lot more stable from a user reports as far as i have seen.

Hi.  What is FF?

Firefox.

I'm going to test the casting again, although I do think the TV can't handle it! Underpowered Sony KD-55X930D
