It is believed that all Sky subscribers help to subsidise the cost of the Sports channels.

But he will as there are other sports he watches that are still on Sky. Again, we will have two ppv players in the market, one offering one sport and the other offering multiple sports. Which one has more value potentially?

Those that are comfortable with paying for EPL are those likely to not have Sky. I will likely be unable to afford to pay for both so will have to lose EPL as I watch other sports that ARE on Sky (Formula 1, indycar, Nascar, Rugby etc).

I just heard Coliseum are doing a press conference this afternoon. Apparently a telco is backing them. I hope it's not vodafone and I imagine it won't be because of their sky relationship.

More than ever I hope Apple open up ATV to an app store. If you could download and log in to a Coliseum app to watch the football, another for F1 etc all via ATV that would be perfect - unless they all charged like wounded bulls. I only mention Apple TV since they are cheap (relatively) and Apple is in the best position to do this with it's mindshare.

Pretty much this. a) I prefer to watch plenty of other sports. b) I can't afford to spend money on multiple subscriptions. c) I wouldn't trust streaming with my current internet anyway (look at what happened to the all blacks game on iSky). So even if I did give up Sky in order to stream all my sports it probably wouldn't work as well as it should anyway.

OK, first of all we don't know the cost of whatever format the EPL will come in.

For me it boils down to the fact that Sky require you to pay for a lot of things that are not sport in order to watch sport.

That is fine but I would prefer to pay for the stuff I want to watch.

Also, a question to those that are happy to see the 'monopoly' broken, what happens when the sport providers start charging individually for each sport... NFL/NHL already do this with their online pass, EPL could be heading that way, F1 are looking at it... How much would you then spend on sports, would you be comfortable paying potentially more money for multiple sports than you pay now, or do you generally only follow a single sport?

If you go down the individual sports line and you like say 4 -5 sports you could be looking at $80-100 a month for those alone. Plus the increase in data cap you might require.

I would be fine with it, but of course it depends on pricing.

For F1 I would pay to watch the race live and stretch to quail if the price was right (I think it would be a rip off if their official live timing iPhone/iPad app is anything to go by).

For Rugby I would only pay to watch the internationals, my team's games and the maybe the finals live - same with cricket and league. I just don't care about paying for live games that don't involve my team. But if it's $25 per game like igloo charges then definitely no way.

For me if I don't catch sport live because I'm out then I won't watch it again. I just can't watch sport that is not live (except for WRC lol)

No other sports attract my interest to the point that i need to have them live or multiple channels of random sports I never watch.

I would be interested to work out what that would cost vs. a Sky subscription but I can't be bothered right now!

Paul Brislen was quoted on Stuff today as saying that eventually each sport or franchise will sell directly to the viewer, ie cut out the middle men to some extent.

Obviously a lot of water has to flow under the proverbial bridge.

You could argue that is a big stimulus for improvements and innovation.

Improvements and innovation in what though? If they're already seperate, delivered via multiple devices then how can you further innovate what is a fixed 'show'? There are still costs to pay for and license fees, so what would you be innovating in?

We will also see sports content owners splitting their rights up I think.

Something maybe like [Insert Sport] selling live TV broadcast rights to Sky, live internet rights to Colisieum and then delayed free to air rights to Sommet - just as an example

It would be great for the viewer, open the content right up and potentially have a lot more exposure for the sport.

I think the days of Sky calling the shots have pretty much ended. With multiple delivery options I think content owners can share the love... Or we get screwed more than ever haha...
