I had a gap in my sleep around 4am this morning so I signed up for Netflix NZ HD plan. Have not had a chance to use it yet though. I have SkyTV which costs me $165/mth and a 60GB ADSL plan which recently went up to $90/mth (used to be $75, thanks ComCom). My ISP doesnt offer an unlimited plan. My street doesn't have fibre. I'm going to cancel SOHO to help offset the cost of Netflix, but was wondering if I am in a position to cancel SKY altogether?

I think only you can answer that with the selection of Netflix content.  165/month is an awful lot of money, I'm guessing you watch a lot of sports/movies.

on your ISP you should be able to find an unlimited ADSL deal for less than 90/month I would have though.  60GB is not much

165 a month on Sky is insane!

I think Sky + Sport + HD = $110 ish. I assume you have Soho ($20?) and Movies ($24?)

Oh, I forgot about Sports, if I cancel that the husband will probably want a divorce. I could probably do away with most of the rest though. I've been concerned about my ISP since the prices went up but was thinking I should try and hold out until fibre comes (whenever that might be) and change then. But now Netflix is here and I'm thinking maybe sooner would be better.

Thats super expensive for Sky.

Ive go Sky for $58 a month for 12 months with following

Basic
Sport
Movies
HD ticket
My Sky HDi+ box

Along with my $13 US Netflix account and Getflix for $3 a month covers everything you could ever want.

you are on a 60GB plan for $90! and your ISP doesn't do unlimited.

the first thing you should be doing is changing ISPs.
you can get naked broadband with unlimited data for around $80, or, if you are old fashioned enough to want a landline, about $90 for unlimited data.

I've got it up and running via the app that appeared on my Sony Blu-Ray Home Theatre System yesterday. Disappointingly no app yet on my brand new Panasonic PVR, or in the app market on it. Anyway, it looks good on my ageing Sony HD TV. The first few seconds were pixelated and then it sorted itself out. The Sony interface is a bit weird - I prefer the Apple TV one, but that's a minor quibble.

littleheaven: Actually, the launch of Netflix locally might see an increase in the number of people geo-unblocking, because they don't have to go through the perceived rigmarole of signing up for the US account.

Yep, I am one of those people, I will have Netflix NZ and Unotelly set up by tonight

Wondering if anyone managed to get the Netflix plugin working in Windows 7 Media Center?  There is one there (even tho' the Netflix support person I chatted with said there wasn't) but I couldn't get it to load correctly.

It's a Microsoft plugin so wondering if that is geo blocked or something.  :-(

Anyone tried it and got it loaded ok?

Thanks.  :-)
