Resnick:

^ works like a charm, thanks!

Hahaha, Glad I could help (after spending an hour dicking around with "lifehacker" and "xda" posts last night after a crappy work day).

I thought I'd find the source, and try that. TADA! :D

SiliconAudio:

I have a Chromecast - not supported  by Amazon's app.  I have an Xbox One - Amazon Video app not available in NZ.  Screwed if I'm going to buy yet another gadget to play this on my TV.

Seems a bit premature to release this without an eco system to support it.

On your Xbox One change the location to US in the settings menu restart download Amazon app ( and Hulu etc if you want) change back to NZ, restart :)

Oh, OK.  I mistakenly thought I'd need to leave it set to USA, which I wasn't willing to do.  But if I can change it back to NZ after installation and keep the app, I will give it a try.  Thanks for the tip :)

Hmmm, one big problem...

It lists all the programs but most of them I can't watch as it tells me they are region-locked.  I guess that's because I installed it as a different region and the library it shows me is for that region, not my own.  Are you seeing this too?

At the moment my internet is down, so not seeing anything lol

I didn't get a chance to fully check it out, but I don't think that is to do with the app being from the wrong country
the nz catalogue is supposedly quite limited

Will check out tomorrow if my internet is back

Someone else may be able to jump in here and confirm

OK, well, I can confirm it doesn't work.  For instance, I can watch "Man in the high Castle" via the crappy web client, but if I install Amazon Video on the Xbox One either when connected as in the UK or the USA, when I then try to play back that same show that works on the web, it tells me I can't play it due to region restrictions.

So basically, a dead dog.  We will have to wait (God knows how long) before it's released for NZ.  So, I'm bailing out.  Can't believe those guys wont just make it work on my Chromecast.  Seriously, I have enough devices already - not buying another one.  My Panasonic smart tv doesn't have a client either.

So I have three devices (Smart TV, Chromecast, Xbox One) that all can play Netflix, but not one can play Amazon Video.  That's a deal breaker for me.  Goodbye Amazon - you suck!

It isn't good for the consumer that certain devices are essentially locked out. Also I can't believe that amazon would release such a service targeting nzers, but they dont allow us to buy their fire tv and fire tablets, which are needed if you don't watch it on a tv screen. . Well you can, but have to pay more and use something like you post to ship it to nz.

That's a weird one... I have Stan here in Oz and they have the rights to "Mozart In The Jungle", but I can watch it thru the android Amazon Video app, no worries.

Just checking "Man In The High Castle" and that works fine too. No idea who has the Oz rights to  it.... Probably Foxtel.

EDIT: And my android app was sideloaded from my  earlier post. So not a region thing.

Still waiting on my internet to come back up, but have confirmed that man in the high castle plays fine on my Android phone on Vodafone 4G

Once internet is up will check the Xbox.

SiliconAudio: are you using any sort of Smart DNS or VPN? If so try it with your normal ISP DNS and see if that helps

No, I'm not and don't see why I should have to for a service that is supposedly legitimate in NZ.  But I will give it a try.

You shouldn't need to, but sometimes if you are they can screw up.
Once Enable have finished fixing the busted Fibre in chch I will see what my Xbox does :)
Just to confirm and to make sure I have all the variables the same:

You signed up at primevideo.com and used an nz address
You don't use Smart dns or VPN
You downloaded the app from the US store

I've had Amazon via the XBox One for a while now... until the Grand Tour I probably watched three shows in their entirety...

Once the Grand Tour is finished, I'm out.

Then again I have US Netflix and Hulu (ad free) as it is...

So my internet is back and have tested Amazon video and man in the high castle plays fine, no error at all

Xbox is set to NZ, using default bigpipe DNS. Amazon account has NZ delivery address.

@SiliconAudio: who is your ISP? Also maybe check your Xbox region has definitely been set back to NZ :)
