Hopefully Disney+ will be global, they seem to own everything worthwhile now anyway.

They have already signalled their intention is to be in all "major" regions (does this include NZ? Time will tell) within 2 years of launching in the US

Disney+ is streaming to NZ from 19th November. The day AFTER Netflix is increasing its prices! Good timing eh?

It's the same increase isn't it?

That's actually quite brutal, or perhaps brutalous?

This price hike sees the once bargainous streaming service surge to the top of the heap as the most expensive. It's standard subscription is now $4 more per month, than the same from its closest competitor.

I'll make Thursday's latte, a small one. The other days can stay regular..   :-)  #doingittough

Netflix first announced it was hiking the prices of its subscriptions in August, but some Kiwi customers are only receiving the news now...

However, a Netflix spokesperson confirmed the correspondence was part of the pricing changes that were announced in August.

The timing of the emails is "based on the specific member's billing cycle," the spokesperson said.

New subscribers in August would have seen the price rise take effect immediately.

I mentioned in another thread only last week that we were yet to receive any alert of the increase, and our most recent Netflix deduction on 7 Nov was still for $14.99; I assume we'll be alerted before the next deduction, so that's four months delay in our case, which is fine by me... but then that's somewhat ironic as I appear to be one of the few who feel that $17 a month (or 56c a day) is still damn good value...

If other providers put their prices up 21%, there would be rioting and a never end of whining... oh wait...

To keep it short, they provide superior product to other providers, and around half the price of Sky's decoder (Entertainment non Sport content), which is the only way to get DD sound with Sky.

If Neon had DD sound I'd be prepared to pay around $20 for it.

Find it funny that because Netflix is rolling out the August price to different people at different times, that people think it's a second price increase in short time..

To compare Lightbox and Netflix isn't that fair when Lightbox does not offer free films. Prime Video would be a better comparison but the writer probably has no idea it exists locally.

Might not have made economic sense to buy the NZ rights, given it's Netflix jump on a VPN/DNS solution and use the AU/UK/etc site and watch it.

It is good value. No doubt.

Where did I compare Netflix and Lightbox? Are you a journo needing to fill space?? :-)

Depending on what you like to watch, and one of the SVOD's are the best.

-Lightbox doesn't offer free films

-Netflix doesn't offer latest releases of films

-Is Prime Video better? Ask 10 people you will get 10 answers. When the content is spread amongst X options, the value depends what you like and what they have.
