Not many people should be surprised by this really. It was on the cards all along.

Still good value for money though.

Exactly. The reality is its a peanuts increase but in the media its the % that's gets the clicks/complaints/worldwillend
The issue isn't as much the increase (though 20% is pretty hefty in reality) I don't feel, but this combined with market fragmentation.
From the NZH article
A spokeswoman for Spark offered pointed cheekily pointed out that "The current Spark Netflix offer means broadband customers on entertainment plans get Netflix included for as long as they are on the plan, so Spark customers won't be affected by any changes announced today."

True, and Amazon is the latest here. For many, all these services are cheap, but as they approach $22, that's still cheap but not if you have 4 of them. Others may up their prices "but not as much as Netflix"
At some point that will start to bite. Having said that, I dont pay for Lightbox or Netflix standard, or Spotify, so the ISP's are picking up quite a bit of the tab in NZ
Hmm... I haven't really kept up with NZD vs USD exchange rates and pricing comparisons. I think it's currently cheaper to pay in NZD? But will this bring closer to parity or even tip that balance? I currently pay in USD because I signed up before Netflix was available in NZ - I considered switching a while back when it seemed NZD worked out cheaper but never got round to it... so quite curious how it compares now. EDIT: Will look into it this evening unless someone has already run the numbers and cares to share :D

I recently changed from USD to NZD. This might make it similar enough for you not to have to worry about it though.

Staying in Wellington. Check out my AirBnB in the Wellington CBD. https://www.airbnb.co.nz/h/wellycbd PM me and mention GZ to get a 15% discount and no AirBnB charges.
I had literally just cancelled my US account 2 days ago, to flick over to an NZ one, because NZ was cheaper at current exchange rates.
However I think that's still the correct move. US Std Plan is $13 USD = approx. $20 NZD (plus some FX charges). But the new NZ Std plan will be $17 NZD. So still better to be on the NZ plan.
I just down-graded from 4K.
Personally I'm working my way thorough Amazon Prime at the moment, but the wife and kids watch Netflix at the moment so I can't cancel netflix :(
I found 4K was horrible, juddering mess. I am back on 1080P and don't miss it.
What was the problem with 4K ? A juddering mess obviously. Was it on a particular device or do you have slow internet or something ?

I haven't noticed that on either Netflix 4K or Prime 4K. I may review our viewing to see if Netflix is still worth it as I don't believe we watch a lot of it.
a ~20% increase with no increase in value is a cheeky move regardless.

For years they made losses, then when they turned a profit it was a very small fraction of sales. Today's new pricing is probably about right for them, and the market.
