Sure but it's also disingenuous to say they aren't selling you a number of concurrent streams. They very clearly are.

No it's not. It's plainly explained as 4 concurrent streams for people who live in the same household. They are conditionally joined not independent benefits.

You can have 4 concurrent streams if you live in the same household.

The 'team 4 streams' are (rightly, as in technically correct, as in the best kind of correct) saying Netflix sell 4 concurrent streams.

They also just feel Netflix should let them use those streams however they want (at the current pricing); Netflix feel they should only use those streams in one household.

Important distinction, because Netflix's current pricing is designed for Netflix's idea about the household; Netflix's new pricing is based on 4 concurrent streams you can use however you want. Obviously it stings a little to have to pay more for something you previously got for free - but you weren't actually ever meant to be getting that for free anyway.

Dumb question:  When outside of the home, would it be possible to route via a DNS at home.  For example Pi Hole + Open VPN?

VPN into your home connection and set your resolvers to your home device (pihole is one example) when the VPN is up - yeah sure.

You're going to trombone all your traffic (bandwidth consumed both in and out). Plus VPN overhead on your performance.

To be honest i'd personally stick with using the service in the way in which it is intended to be consumed. Far less mucking around.

(FWIW My family has the mid-tier Netflix subscription, there's four of us, but we're rarely all using it at the same time. It's never been a problem, we've always used it within the conditions of the sub and on the very rare occasions that both my kids are watching Netflix and I want to use it, we negotiate ;-) Part of the benefit of also having Disney+ and Amazon Prime is that we can make it work.
And I give Netflix major credit for having proper offline/downloaded media support... if i'm commuting I can take my mobile device fully offline and it works fine without adding to the simultaneous-stream account. So I can watch my offline content with full confidence i'm not actually 'stealing' a channel that the folks i've left at home might want.

With the prices rising we are re-evaluating staying with Netflix but for the moment there's content on there several of us are watching, so, it remains worthwhile.

No signature to see here, move along...

Thanks, I was mainly just curious.  I had a couple of pi units doing folding at home, but it's proven too much hassle to keep working.  So, I'm looking for a new pi project or two.

We have the top tier Netflix.  My partner and I use it and so do the two kids who live 50% of the time in our house.  I believe that's within terms as they are members of our household.  My partner and I travel and we regularly use Netflix while traveling.  I think that's within the terms too.  We will quite have three people using Netflix at three different locations.  Me at home, one of the kid's at their mother's place and my partner at a hotel somewhere.
