ALTRON:

Been watching a bit and the quality is A LOT better than I expected. While it doesn't match the bitrate of skysport "HD" as I can see compression, artifacting, the 50FPS (or 60 i cant tell) is great :)

It plays back really well on chrome browser. no issues.

When I cast to CC ultra (connected via ethernet) via IOS app everything works fine until I want to pause/scrub forward/backwards STOP etc. The app loses control of the CC and I have to restart the google home app and spark app.

Im thinking this is just typical IOS issue. sleeping the app while its in the background and when I wake it its lost link with CC.   Restarting apps all the time probably isn't going to cut with someone that just want to watch sports 😢 Also chromecast isnt the most relibale of hardware .   Would an additional bluetooth connection to control the casting device improve playback control?

I have this also while casting  with my motoGP subscription. constant app restarts .

Everything is fine if you just let the video playback.

100/20 spark fibre

Does it do this also on OD content?

Ran some tests last night on my setup.

Intel NUC i3 - 8Gb - BigPipe Gigabit - Grandstream Router - ethernet CAT6 - HDMI to Sony KD-55X930D

Chrome and FF show the same picture, there is judder on both. I can see they both play the 1080p 60FPS stream, but it doesn't look like 60FPS. You can see some element of compression pixelation and at times, an interlaced line is seen, on fast pace content.

I played the start on both browsers for comparison. If i'm being pedantic FF is slightly better, but minutely marginal.

I watched the F1 highlights on YouTube (native app), there you see the difference! That is 1080p stream and it shows!

I thought the picture quality was quite good, only noticed the codec sh1t itself when the confetti rained down on the podium at the end...

cheers Talkiet - i would assume so too, it was always going to be a low powered, low use PC as well.

I'll hook Surface Book 2 up to the TV, and test that.

cheers

It would make a lot of sense if Spark Sport put up a test page section on their website with various, VOD and stream clips that users could use to aid in fine tuning things. Support could then instruct users "Please try test video 3" etc etc realistically most issues will be at the users end and be connection or device related.

Yes vod is all and good but if there is a video tagged as '60 FPS test loop" "50 FPS Test loop" "Pan test" "Bitrate waves" "Bitrate confetti" "Mono test" "stereo test" "5.1 test"

That could help to ruleout certain issues.

Another option might be "I use A and B and C and I am finding this, anyone out there with the same, to compare a test?"

I tried the native web browser on my smart tv, and it worked perfectly.  A lot better than the 2 laptops i tried along with chrome and Firefox.  Using the laptops the feed in either browser just didn't feel right or look 100% right. (hard to  put into words) I've used my old laptop to stream the golf a few years ago when sky ditched it, had no issues at all.  Also stream via vpn aussie tv with no issues, so dont know why Spark Sports would be any different, HD or not??

Hope they develop an TV app for Samsung which would make life easier.

What is the recommended minimum download speed for Sparksport?

My folks get about 12Mbps download speed from a fixed wireless transmitter.

Will this be good enough?

I want to try it out.

But the whole negative billing is a big turn off.

i dont understand this logic, just use the calendar app on you phone to remind you to cancel the sub 1 or 2 days before payment.

if your serious about watching sport legitimately you know money is involved. and you will have to pay at some point anyway.

just my 2c

Any update on the VOD delay?  Bahrain is the first middle of the night event and if the VOD asset isn't available until hours later it will screw up being able to watch it, especially if the app crashes the live stream close to the end of the program.  I'm not going to be able to subscribe without this as watching the race delayed by an  entire working day means I'd rather watch the race highlights on youtube for free as that will effectively be the same result.

Lazy question. I presume I won't be able to access Spark Sport from Australia next week when I am there?
