Movieman:

One of my iTunes purchases has disappeared from my library. I was warned that this could happen, but I didn't think that it would. The film is SOURCE CODE (2011). I have searched for it in the iTunes store, but its no longer available. Anyone else had this happen to them? I just want to know if its a regular occurrence.

Just checked the USA store, and its still available there. I don't expect to hear anything back, but I have sent an inquiry to iTunes.

I haven't yet noticed any movies in my library disappear, but I've definitely noticed movies in my wishlist disappear - the cover art disappears and when I select it, it says it's no longer available. Frustrating !

I will be keen to hear what the response is from the iTunes Store

I contacted Apple support chat; waste of time. They told me to go into my purchase history and re-download it. It wasn't available in my purchase history 'cos its disappeared from iTunes and my library.

After I checked my purchases, I went back to the chat, but it had disconnected. Hopefully this occurrence is a one off, but I will be keeping a close eye on my library from now on 🤨

I do have SOURCE CODE on Blu-ray disc in 1080p/DTS-HD MA 5.1. I am digitizing it as I type this.

iTunes version was Dolby Vision/Dolby Atmos. Not expecting this to be sorted anytime soon.

I'll probably never watch it again 😁 but its the principle.

Sorry but might be teaching G/pa how to suck eggs - but! don't you store your movies locally and have a backup plus a G/father backup off site - I do!

Movies periodically get removed. Once gone, if you don't have them saved locally to your machine, you will never be able to retrieve them.

I have ALL my entire iTunes, music, movies, etc library's on a 5Tb external drive which is also Time Machine and monthly G/father backup.

Back up and restore your iTunes library on your PC

ADDED: How to Move iTunes library to an External Hard Drive

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

I think 720p/1080p are available for download. 4K UHD not.

I already have a lot of my iTunes library on 1080p discs. I have upgraded most of them to 4K UHD on iTunes. The rest are digitized to my external HDD.

I always thought if movies got removed from store, purchased ones can still be accessed. To date I haven’t noticed any of mine disappear, and think I may have one that’s not on store any more.

If this is not the case I will be purchasing no more movies off iTunes Store, unless rent and purchase cost near same.

I purchased four or five movies with the Christmas specials, I think one the purchase price was same as rent.

I know not to purchase off Google as from memory they have a 5 year limit, so more like a 5 year rental.

If have to store on hard drive seems to be more hassle then worth, plus most movies I won’t purchase unless 4K.

Yeah, licensing rights are complicated and a lot of them are divided up by territory to maximise the returns.
