Plausible. IIRC there's an episode of TNG where they find out that by traveling over warp 10 (or something up there) that there's a life form that exists in the space that's created by a warp field (or something like that) which is harmed by going that speed so they make it illegal to go above warp 9 (or something like that).

Yes, all a bit of a stretch - the mysterious alien creature that makes magic science happen LOL. Good point, if it had any future in the ST universe as a transportation technology we'd have seen it in the other shows. I too predict a short sharp end to it and am hoping that the plot will then sharpening up a bit and build on the moral ambiguity of Jason Isaac's character. Essentially he is on the dark side of Star Fleet - Sith Lord anyone?

Yup, I remember that episode. They set a top speed limit so they wouldn't harm sub-space (or something like that).

I also remember this episode well, and had the same thought the second the Tardigrade was introduced in Discovery. I have a feeling at the end of the series we'll see some catastrophic fallout form the use of "Faster than Warp 10" speeds.

Not saying that I dislike Discovery at all, but each episode it seems less and less like a Star Trek series. Yes sure the infrastructure, organisations and political basics are there but its far more conflicted than any other ST series. The bright optimism and unthinking allegiances of both ST and SW is hardly there at all. The character developments seems a bit off as well, the whole Saru/Burnham/Lorca relationship dynamic seems barely functional. Well, certainly not your classic ST command line and cheery obedience :-) Rather less ST and a bit more like The Expanse in some ways. Already a bit over the magical space drive and the mystical creature that drives it. Unsustainable but no one really seems that bothered by that other than Burnham who drive/motive is some compassion for the creature. Here's hoping it settles into something coherent but I'm not convinced it will anymore.

Hmm. I'm not sure if you've seen the last two episodes. Including new one tonight.

There have been many occasions in Star Trek history where we have seen captains of other vessels who had a different orientation for one reason or another and it is clear that Lorca would easily fit one of those molds.
