Movie of the Week: Friday 28 August

Just Mercy (2020) @ $0.99 Rental or $9.99 Buy (Dolby Vision/Dolby Atmos)

After graduating from Harvard, Bryan Stevenson heads to Alabama to defend those wrongly condemned or those not afforded proper representation. One of his first cases is that of Walter McMillian, who is sentenced to die in 1987 for the murder of an 18-year-old girl, despite evidence proving his innocence. In the years that follow, Stevenson encounters racism and legal and political maneuverings as he tirelessly fights for McMillian's life.

Lots of Gangster movies under $5 this week. Also 1917 (Dolby Vision) and Bad Boys For Life (Dolby Vision/Dolby Atmos) under $10.

Thats what i find annoying re: physical vs digital pricing. Unless its a day 1 title like 1917 for example i tend to wait until the sales before i grab a 4K copy on disc. But these prices make it hard to keep that physical disc addiction going. I mean 1917 Digital at $9.99 vs the disc at $29.99 doesnt help. It also doesnt help that new 4K Releases have been very few and far between...especially in NZ vs Australia but i suppose thats Covid 19 For ya. The retailers here must be doing a roaring trade in 4K titles...NOT!!!!. Been umming and ahhing on Bloodshot. Tell me how that one goes.

I have to agree with you on the 4K UHD pricing. It started off expensive, and hasn't really reduced in price since launch. Just had a look for the Bloodshot 4K price online.

The three stores that I usually deal with in NZ are; The Warehouse (Their catalogue has shrunk to three pages), JB Hi-Fi, and the most expensive on average, Mighty Ape. None of these stores had the movie in 4K, which could mean 1. The movie is crap, or 2. demand for physical media is waning. I would tend to go for the latter. A third reason could be supply problems due to COVID-19.

Personally I am over physical media, Gemini Man being my final purchase. I only bought that because I was curious to see what 60 fps looked like on my TV.

Now, lets talk about Bloodshot. It certainly won't win any awards, and I would class it as a mildly entertaining futuristic action movie. Maybe a 6/10 for the actual content, which I sort of lost track of halfway through. Packed with computer generated wizardry, this was enough to keep me interested for the second half of the movie. But the real draw card here, is the excellent A/V experience. Gorgeous Dolby Vision visuals, and almost as good is the Dolby Atmos soundtrack.

My recommendation would be to give it a rental when its available at 0.99 cents, and then decide if you want it in your collection or not. You may even get it for $5 sometime in the future. Definitely one to give your system a run for its money.

EDIT: JB Hi-Fi Australia have Bloodshot 4K for $AUD36.98. Nuff said

FYI. Back to the Future 1 & 2 have been upgraded to Dolby Vision/Dolby Atmos on the NZ iTunes store. The third film is still showing as HD, but I expect it will also be upgraded in the near future (no pun intended).

You can buy the Trilogy bundle for $14.99 ATM. Bargain!

If you already bought it in HD. You automatically get upgraded to 4K. So the next time you access it through your Apple TV app, or Apple TV 4K, it will play in 4K, providing that you have the hardware.

For those of you who don't want to spend the money on an Apple TV 4K box, your 4K Smart TV may be compatible with the Apple TV app, which allows you to access the iTunes store, and you can play your purchases or rentals using the app instead.

I enjoyed Fast & Furious: Hobbs & Shaw better then Bloodshot. It’s 4K Dolby vision, Atmos.

The rent price is still near new release, but purchase price $9.99.

It has similarities to Blood Shot, where someone has super strength. Probably the 2 people working together always trying to outdo each other is what I found made it more enjoyable. Cars not the main focus of story but some great stunt/effect work in that area to.

Grabbed this one a few months back. The image on this is really awesome for a streamer. And the Dolby Vision HDR is up there too. Great movie for a night in with the family CGI Dog and all. This movie is for those Crispy 4K Image and Moody Atmos Fans. Great demo of what Streaming can achieve.

JB Hi-Fi have the the Disc set (4 UHD / 4 Blu-ray) for pre-order $99. Release Date is October 21. Even if you wait for one of their 20% off sales, it would still cost just under $80.

Unless I needed the Blu-rays and/or bonus discs (which I don't), it would be hard to convince myself to spend that much, when I can have the iTunes bundle for $14.99.

I watched the first 10 minutes of the first movie yesterday, and it looked really good. The HDR makes the difference.
