Wow that was quick. My package has now left shipito. I didn't expect that until tuesday, however i suspect it will now sit at a usps sorting facility for atleast the next 2 days.

garvani: My firetv has made it to the shipito warehouse. Im now presented with various shipping options. Oh the decisions, be wounded severely and have it in a few days or be cheap and wait 20+ days...

Edit: Ok im cheap, I imagine ill regret this decision over the coming few days! :).

Which one did you go with?

I went with airmail priority.. for another $30 i could have had it a lot quicker but then it would have been a ~$170 device, thats getting up there. I would be surprised if it took 20-40 days, ive never had anything take that long from the states so hoping for more like 14 ;)

For those that have ordered on this forum, will we just require a travel plug (US to NZ) to get this device working?

I am hoping the power brick uses a standar clover leaf power cord so we could just use that instead. Let's see when it gets here.

The review I saw had a large wall wart about the size of a UK iphone charger.

A few updates for you all that ive stumbled across recently. I realise not everyone has time to scour the net, i seem to be devoting a good portion of my time to it so i may as well share what im finding.

First and foremost this maybe a welcome sight for a few of you:

Yes root has been obtained. Xda will be releasing the packages soon.

Remotes:

Firetv supports flirc!

The mele f10 works well, the keyboard on the back works, as well as the airmouse. I will be purchasing one of these myself:

If you happen to have this model of MCE remote your in luck too. Only this model though, the older generation doesn't work.

Looking like a nice device.

Will you be attempting to sideload the NZ ondemand apps onto yours? Although, I suppose, Netflix and the OnDemand apps will not work on the same device will they?

Initial review have put me off - great experience for Amazon stuff, 3rd party less so.

The netflix app is apparently just the stock android one... might have to wait and see.

The first problem with the ondemand apps is that they are locked to samsung devices only for both mediaworks and tvnz, until this is resolved no other device will work. However once thats taken care of there is no reason why they can't be on the same box as netflix, you would have to use hola unblocker to just unblock netflix (as well as other US apps) or you would be forever changing the dns settings.

What review was this? Most of the reviews i have seen have been fairly positive. I would ignore the majority of the amazon reviews, far out that's a painful experience! Amazon content is obviously going to take center stage on this device, and thats fair enough considering the price vs specs. Getting third party content on the box is easy enough and now that root is obtained, new launchers and functionality will surely follow. For a device that is less than a week old its looking really good.
Also Netflix on here plays in SuperHD, a first for any android set top box. I don't quite know what you were expecting as far as layout goes? Amazon to get there own special interface?

There's been a couple of reviews which complain that the voice search is only for Amazon content, but that's probably only an initial problem - a commenter mentioned that for them voice search also brought up hulu results, so if Netflix etc make a firetv specific app it should work with them too.

In the review you just linked to there is a power supply with a US-plug. I see no plug pack there and the plug does not look like one where you can change the plug. So unless you mean something other than a power supply with exchangeable plugs (like some Apple power adapters) then it seems to me like you are wrong.

Cheapest way to deal with it will be a travel adapter. Warehouse or Dick Smith will probably have the cheapest ones.
