Batman:

Baldrick: I’ve been watching via Firefox since April with no issues but the past 2 days have encountered a bit of the picture freezing for a second while the sound continues.

I am now using chrome without the issue showing up. The only downside to chrome is the audio sync is not always the best.

Has anyone else had issues with Firefox?

Exactly. I watch on Chrome and apart from the constant buffering in game 1, there is no issue. I also happen to have the latest and greatest laptop CPU and GPU.

But if given the choice - will choose to watch on MySky anyday!

Spark Sport is pleased to confirm that the All Blacks vs Namibia match streamed successfully with concurrent streams peaking at the second highest since the All Blacks vs Springboks match.

Maybe you need to contact your IT guy. I love Sky. Today I was watching golf, the ball motion was poor

event2: It's on and old projector at the moment, 1024x768

I hope you are not one of the people complaining to Stuff or Herald that you can't get full HD...

larknz: I was watching on a Smartvu dongle on Vodafone fibre, which is a Spark supported option. I had a lot of stuttering in the first half and then about 10 minutes before the end of the first half the Spark sport app gave up and all I had was a black screen. Changed over to Samsung tablet and chromecast to watch the rest of the first half which was an improvement, but not perfect. The second half I changed back to the Smartvu with no significant problems. If I am using a Spark approved device I expect to be able to watch a broadcast as good as Sky, which was not the case today.

As you will see, others did not have your issues. If there was a fault everyone would have it. They didn't. It does seem to be your issue than a Spark issue

event2: Anyone else only getting 720p30fps on web browser?

I had that issue ,  you need to click the [] in the lower right corner to maximize the video stream.

I've been on the facebook of the people who claim they will sue spark because of their non working streaming. Already seen people feeding the browser output to their tv via hdmi...along with all their onscreen icons etc. Then complaining about their blurry crappy spark stream..

few things i've noticed re complaints about spark sport..

People running Chromecasts with out of date firmware (Google this you can force update them)

People running Chrome (out of date versions) with broken widevine support.  see link for fix

https://www.quora.com/How-do-I-install-Widevine-on-Chrome

hope that helps anyone having issues.

Batman:

I am certain that the pixellation that I see on the screenshots are not due to Spark feed but the device - either software (app writing) related or GPU (hardware decoding) related

That does not completely absolve Sparksport from being responsible, but it is someone beyond their control.

Can you clarify that?

My phone's autocorrect changes the word I swipe, after the fact, without warning. If you can help fix that it would be amazing. I've unchecked all autocorrect settings and it still changes the words willy nilly.

I feel bad for what Spark is having to deal with.

For example- I get a call from my neighbor 2 min down the road ---who was having an issue with a streaming device. I try to help them---

Me - Are you using a google chromecast?

Them - Yes! Chromecast...it doesn't work.

So after 5 to 10 min on the phone of try this/that and they can't find this or that (me scratching my head like what the heck). I said to them i'll come down and have a look. Drive to the house...get to the house.

I ask where is the chromecast? They point to a box--- right there beside the tv. I said---- that's not a chromecast. They said - Oh..it's not?

Had a couple of other people at the golf course saying how crap Spark RWC was and they we're really pissed. I went to their house and got things sorted. Funny thing though--- no admission it was their issue and not Sparks. Most of these people Spark are having to deal with--- probably don't know how to do basic troubleshooting.

I'm intrigued, what were they pointing to if it wasn't a Chromecast?

That's the thing with technology. I recall my mother being unable to use the VCR. Unless it's plug and play (tv app, mysky, supplied idiot proof set top box, etc) you will get these problems.

So basically when someone calls Spark and says their chromecast (insert whatever) is not working, first step is to confirm with absolute certainty what device they are referring to. Eg take a photo - I'm assuming they probably won't know how to do that, so you send a human to their house to take a look!

Agree

You can liken this to the top hanging fruit. IT literate people got Netflix, their friends and family are ok now. Newbies called Spark to get newbie help when Spark said call us now to get sorted before the RWC. We now have those that didn't bother, left. Now they start calling FB and Stuff instead of Spark it seems

Jase2985:

Jiriteach:

Reading the latest new articles (from just before) - Spark blames the users and that makes sense but users signed up to receive the service as per their offerings/supported - thats not what a few are recieving.

the problem is most consumers dont realize that their choice in equipment, broadband etc all play a part in the experience they receive from spark. they just expect it to work like Netflix does, and dont know the difference to live streaming vs on demand.

The key detail here with the netflix comparison is, netflix isn't live streaming content. So netflix has the advantage of a nice large buffer to fill which smooths over poor WiFi etc.

If spark sport we're to impose the same I'd bet you will have headlines of how delayed it is.

To a consumer, both are simply streaming media.. I'm not sure there is a simple way to break that down.

As a side note, tons of people also have issues with "netflix buffering" almost ever case I have seen has been 2.4ghz wifi related.
