4k is a dream for us lot. Maybe we'll get 4k when foxtel streams 8k.

A shame they couldn't run it over that Kordia test channel. I'd be happy to report back on that for them if they'd required feedback loops of 4k RWC broadcast...

Found ourselves at the in-laws for dinner last night with no way to watch the rugby (not that I minded).  Ended up streaming on my Note 10+ and casting to the LG TV.  Changed my resolution to FHD on the phone and only dropped 20% battery.  Worked really well through the whole game.

. These stories are there to sell eyeballs, not to get the service better.

And if we needed more proof, they now have enough exposure to warrant the paywall stories trap.

Yeah don't think I would like to be working in Spark's rugby PR department to be honest.

Scoff all you like but

Spark Sport has a serious problem of unreliability to the general public and that is a big problem if they want to grow their product .

sorry Freudian slip, corrected

Also a serious problem of people mixing up the name of their service with another sport provider :)

The take I get is that if u have supported devices, and no home issues, its fine. I watch about 7 to 8 hours of F1 each fortnight. It just works as they say. Live, OD, RW FF whatever, its just like watching Sky. RWC Ive watched a few matches, the two known issues were their fault, other than that it just works

I get there is unreliability but its not the feed. Otherwise everybody would be complaining. Every last one of us, as every one of us would see the same faults at the same time

Spark Sports should have developed a simple top set box or something similar that they could have rented out for the duration of the RWC or permanently owned be individual, just to eliminate any hardware issues with the stream.  Hindsight is fine now but going forward, streaming of live events is going to be the norm.

Since the fist game with SA and Japan, once I'd figured that you have to log out of the app each time you want to exit, change channel or go back to normal tv, the apps been fine..

The DRM stream doesn't like being left idle. Or hard quitting. So spews an error if you switch out and try to re-start it. But it's meant to have been addressed now I thought...

People / the media, don't generally complain about the performance of netflix though these days, and that is a BYOD system. Likewise there are lots of live ondemand services already, so it is now quite  a mature technology, especially systems like youtube.

My issue is that the free to air coverage  isn't available on TVNZ streaming services, considering many people have done away with UHF , or can't get a good signal. So on these ondemand boxes, people can't get the coverage unless they subscribe to the package, or they buy a UHF aerial, which is a bit like going back to a landline for many.
