I tried to install the ITV app on my Roku 2 where it is apparently available but it wasn't there. I agree but since I can watch it on Kodi, I don't feel any need to try to hack my Roku.

Not technically a hack .. just unlinking your US Roku account and relinking to a UK Roku account. Once you have the account set up it only takes a matter of minutes (dependant on the number of Apps sign into)

Probably the wrong term. The issue might be, once you do that you lose access to the US store and apps that don't exist in the UK one. I hard Hulu isn't available in the UK store and I use that often.

Probably the wrong term. The issue might be, once you do that you lose access to the US store and apps that don't exist in the UK one. I hard Hulu isn't available in the UK store and I use that often.

Correct the UK version has no Hulu, no Amazon, and definitely a smaller number of apps available, but it does have apps for all the British free to air channels as well as subscription services for Sky (i.e. Sky NOW .. NB. this app (on Roku & Xbox360) had major buffering issues when I tried it) playing live and on demand TV (something NZ providers could possible learn from).

You would need to decide what is more important, just for he next 5-6 weeks ITV player might be a sweetener before changing back to your US Roku account. :)

Discovered ITV can be accessed through mediaportal (online videos plugin) and the quality seems a tad better than just using chrome (and definitely better than Chromecasting) - this is on the big screen in the lounge. Possibly due to mediaportal decoding/processing?

Watching rugby in bed via laptop and headphones was much more acceptable this morning though, so not sure how much it'll get used.

We have a Roku 3 and I just noticed on the Livestream app that they have the RWC games. I had to use the search to find it but I found it. Not sure of the quality as we watched the All Blacks V Argentina on ITV. We generally watch all the State of Origin games on the app and never had a problem with them.

If you use the filmon playlist maker, it will produce a list of almost 1000 Filmon channels with session i.d token active for 24 hours. (includes the U.K ITV etc)

Which can play directly in a player like VLC

Got the ITV web offering working via free Hola Chrome extension on an older MacBook.
Plugged into TV via banggood $11 display port to hdmi cable.
Used PostCode SE1 9LT to sign up to the ITV website/web player.

Either that, or post-TPP we'll all be living under the great firewall of NZ, in which case scrub that last prediction.

Could well be. But remember, that Sky does not own rugby. they paid the required and probably huge funds to secure it. And they broadcast it on Prime FTA, so I dont really see the issue. If it goes to SVOD next time, thats great. It will cost, as expected. The rugby industry will want the same dollars from whoever broadcasts it. They are the rightsholder

Similar here. ITV via UnoTelly with no VPN over Vodafone VDSL. Been watching through my laptop which is plugged into my lounge TV via an HDMI cable (I'm about to experiment with Chromecast). While not HD, it's very definitely superior to SD. I have been experiencing some minor stutter though.

For the hassle-free set up experience and the price of $0 over and above my existing UnoTelly subscription I'm more than happy with how it is.

Edit: Super choppy via Chromecast - I'll stick with the HDMI cable.

For those who think Sky is pricey (I don't have Sky but do use Sky Fan Pass ($20.00 per week but no on demand service)) look at the Universal Sports US official broadcaster USD $199 just for the World Cup Games (live and on demand) and looking at one of the previous comments on this topic string, this rather expensive service had serious issues as well.

In some ways the death of the all in one sports broadcaster isn't good for any sports fan as costs will soon mount up if/when you need to subscribe to multiple services to watch your/any sport of choice. In a true free open market that service would come up against the likes of ITV UK (live and on demand) for Free (but not in HD). A big open future, but I hope it doesn't end up costing us a fortune.

I think this is a big risk for those interested in the minor sports. The amount a lot of people pay to watch the rugby through Sky also (I assume) allows them to by the rights to other minor sporting events to broadcast which wouldn't otherwise be shown.

It surely would. It costs Sky a fortune for RWC, so we would pay for that via another service or services. IVESCO who runs V8 Supercars was asking really ridiculous money that Sky wasnt going to pay. While we can all have a hate Sky thread, the issue is the cost that providers demand for sport.

Yes, I think I read (maybe in this thread) that Sky's ROE was only 11% (or thereabouts) which isn't excessive.

We are going off topic; my 2 cents worth, Sky just need to rethink their model. Offer Sports only options, Movie only options, Open contracts at a sensible price they will do just fine. Supporting new Media, look at how fast LightBox has gone from 0 to supporting multiple devices and Neon which correct me if I'm wrong is Computer only and Standard Definition.

Management or the lack of it can kill any business, Sky can't afford to keep their heads in the sand much longer or they will become irrelevant.

FYI - saw an advert on ITV for Sky UK saying they are going to have a football channel broadcasting in 4K.
