enfield:

Can't seem to work out how to use prime video on firestick.

Initial setup with US account I see all the movies and shows in prime video but get a geo restricted error when I try to play, changed my account to NZ no movie listings but in the app I see ads for movies but still unplayable.Tried using my friends nz prime account and prime video app does not open.I can access prime video from my laptop, phone without any problems but the firestick won't let me play or display movies.

In your Amazon account the content location and payment location both need to be in NZ, if you have the global version of the fire tv stick. If you have the US version then NZ prime won’t work.

To use a US account you will need an unblocking service. The content is then bigger than NZ content with a fee shows that are available to outside of US - shows that in the US run in a network or another.

Overall a lot more content though.

I was under the impression that I could use the NZ version of prime video on the firestick as the service works without any problems on my phone and laptop.

This is the version and the only Amazon streaming device I’m aware of that works with NZ Prime Video. It’s a poor cousin to the other devices. You can now also use a chromecast to watch NZ Prime.

Yes, installed the YouTube app yesterday on our Gen1 Fire TV. Also used the FTV for Google Cast and it works really well, actually.

Quite happy with our Gen1 FTV - it's (for the moment) getting all the updates and apps we use. The only thing missing really is the UHD support but 1080p works for us.

Yeah me too. I’ve been really pleased with the continued updates from Amazon over the past 5 years.

Plugged the box back in and nothing changed or updated, but when I went to the youtube.com link it told me it was going away soon and to click install on youtube, that installed and linked fine and its back to being a useful box.

Seeing "amazon device" in the cast list on the phone, so I hope that they will not all get called that when I update the other fire tv devices.

My iPhone isn’t showing up the Fire TV as a cast device.
Both on the same network, although the Fire TV is connected via Ethernet cable.

Is there something else required for this too work?
I’d to able to cast NZ Amazon Prime to the Fire TV.

Check your router configuration - some routers have an "isolation" option that will block devices on WiFi from seeing devices on the ethernet side - and vice-versa.

If you get the opportunity to pick up a 4K stick, it's well worth the price just for boost in speed launching apps, etc. The difference is night and day.
