Interesting, was advised those static routes were necessary by one of the guys at dns4me, though I had the dns4me DNSes set on the stick not the router.
Any US service in particular? Or all?
Not actually sure. I was only interested in NF US so didn't check any of the others.

Ah, OK. I don't use US Netflix - the extra titles they have never seem worth the hit on performance to me.
Other than ugreen, are there any (preferably cost effectively sourced in NZ) USB to Ethernet Adapters that work with the Fire Stick (latest generation)?
A couple of new FireTV devices.

Brunzy: Any advantage/disadvantage of buying one of these in the US, or does it rely on your account settings ?
Buying them from the US as opposed to Europe/UK/Australia? The ones bought here (eg off TM) probably also originate from the US anyway.
All the Fire TVs I've had have been the US model, and there's no issue to that. Yes, sometimes it's necessary to swap countries in your Amazon account's settings to allow you to download particular apps. I think I needed to do this to download BBC etc (though an alternative may be to sideload the APKs?).
One thing to note is that, ironically, you can't use an NZ Amazon Prime account (the VOD service) on an Amazon Fire TV, though a US account is ok.
Kiwifruta: If you buy or rent movies on google Play movies (e.g. via phone or PC) you can watch them on the Fire TV’s YouTube app, under purchases in the menu. Indeed this is the case for all devices that access YouTube via official apps or PC browsers. We’ve done it several times.
If I recall correctly, it were just on rooted Fire TVs that people were able to install Google Play Services. Last I looked it had been years since a version of Fire OS has been rooted.
Thanks for this; I wasn't aware of being able to view Google Movies via YouTube. It'll be interesting to see whether the audio is limited to 2.0, as per standard YouTube, or whether it supports the Google Play original audio. Will give it a go!
I see a number of sites push installing Aptoide on an Amazon Fire as an alternative to Google Play, but still unsure if the Movies app could be installed that way. Not an issue if the audio's decent via YouTube, but may investigate if it's not.
I guess I could also pick up a Chromecast and stream to TV via that (as I understand that should support DD discrete audio?), but I can't see the point of buying one now as we'll be replacing the TV in Apr-May next year, and that'll have Google Movies on it.

I have just got a free Amazon Prime Video subscription after signing up with 2 Degrees, I can't get it to work on my Fire TV though. Is that the issue you are referring to?
Cheers
Matt.
Hi @Mattmannz - yes, that's the same issue.
The problem you're having is the same one I faced about four months ago when also switching to 2Degrees with the free Amazon Prime for a year - based on the advice I received here (probably a few pages back in this same thread) there's no solution to that one, I'm sorry - people with a US-based sub can use the Prime app on their Amazon Fire TV, but not those with an NZ-based sub.
We watch it on one TV using the built-in app (it's on LG smart TVs at least, if not other brands as well), and on the other TV using the Apple TV app.
A US fire tv is confirmed not working with non-US prime video account.
Two ways to get around it:
1. Use a DNS redirector (I use Getflix).
2. Use the prime video app on your phone to cast to your fire tv.
