russelo:

A US fire tv is confirmed not working with non-US prime video account.

Two ways to get around it:

1. Use a DNS redirector (I use Getflix).

I also use Getflix, but am still unable to get Amazon Prime working on our Fire TVs. @russelo: what particular settings do you use to be able to view an NZ-based sub on a Fire TV?

I get that Getflix or equivalent would be necessary if trying to use a non-NZ-based Prime account, but can't see how it is relevant to accessing to an NZ-based account; Getflix's Prime settings state 'Select 'turn off' to access from your current country', which makes sense for my use as I'm simply trying to access my NZ account.

My understanding is there's no support for NZ-based Prime accounts on Amazon Fire TVs due to these devices not being officially sold in NZ.

I can only cast Youtube and Netflix, when I open the Prime App on my phone I can only see the Chromecast on my smaller TV, the FireTV doesn't appear :-(

My Amazon Prime setting on Getflix is set to US even when my Amazon Prime account is a NZ-based sub from 2Degrees.

Have been working fine ever since.

Starting today Fire TV Stick Basic Edition owners in Australia can now download the Apple TV app. For the first time ever, users can watch the movies and channels they purchase from Apple on their Fire TV.  Beginning November 1, Apple TV +, home of all-original shows and movies from the world’s greatest storytellers, will also be available to subscribers on the Apple TV app on Fire TV.

The Apple TV app is the home of Apple TV+, which will feature a highly anticipated lineup of original shows, movies, and documentaries, including “The Morning Show,” “Dickinson,” “See,” “For All Mankind” and “The Elephant Queen.”

Please check if you have this on your Fire TV stick as it includes New Zealand as well.

Now if only Disney+ would get their act sorted. It is going to have much more content in November that Apple TV and is still a glaring omission on the Fire TV platform...

My views (except when I am looking out their windows) are not those of my employer.

I'd love to see TVNZ release their Android TV  apk officially for the FireTV. I'm still running an older versions as the usual APK mirrors have old versions.

Has anyone ever given feedback to TVNZ about this?

Does it actually work? As last time I tried it was horribly sluggish to the point of unusability on the fire tv

I've got it on 2 devices, an older Fire Stick and the new 4k FireStick with no performance issues.

I can find the APK, no issues there however, how do I get around the 'Google Services Required' problem?

That's what I'd like to know. Last time I tried I nearly bricked my firestick!
