Has anyone noticed that over time the location of the standby option has changed twice? Used to be the first (default) option when holding down the button, then they shifted it across one to the right, and now with this latest OS it’s across two. A small change, for sure, but not one designed to improve UX (the kids often turn off the tv before the Fire, so used to putting it in standby without seeing what I’m doing).

I never put mine in standby I just let it go to sleep by it's self.

Leaving our Amazon Fire TV on disrupts the HDMI audio on any other input on one of our TVs, including built-in apps (audio drop-outs) - I assume it’s something receiver-related but can’t be bothered working out the cause; easier to turn off the Fire TV.

Frustrating that the new FireTV Stick with the much better remote isn't available yet in the 4K model. It was showing on .com.au until a few days ago, showing as not in stock, stock due soon and now isn't there at all.

Has anyone noticed that sometimes picture and sound get out of sync as if the picture is actually skipping lots of frames and the sound is left behind? So much so that if you are watching something with ads the program starts again and the audio for the ads are still playing ten seconds or more later?

I have encountered cases where you can push the Home button and while the menu shows almost instantly the sound still plays for the next 10 or 15 seconds.

The only way out of this is to restart the box.

Yup, from time to time. It seems as they add more and more features the hardware and software don't seem to cope as well.

There is a new FireStick 4K 3rd gen I'll be upgrading to as soon as it's available in October.

At $59 it's mind-boggling value for money.

Yes, it does feel like the boxes are getting underpowered for what they cram in them... I was thinking of a second-generation Cube but with YouShop being more restrictive not sure I'd get one now.

Mine are both now too laggy to use, the first gen fire stick is also totally inoperable. Like when I bought a $30 android phone. Unusable trash.

The only vaugely acceptable one is the first 4k one - with the SD instead of the optical port on it. But that still feels like trash compared to my mibox on android tv.

They have taken a good product and crapped it up with bloat.

Can't say I've noticed it as I use my Fire TV just about every day.  Mind you mine is a first gen  box and still on the old interface .  Sometimes when I'm watching something on the IMDB channel it can get odd but that  I suspect is IMDB.

I mean, 99% of the time, I am good. Plex is what I watch and Netflix about 50% of the time.

I don't really mind rebooting it occasionally, every fortnight or something is generally OK.

I would prefer a shield tv but they are stupidly expensive.

To be fair the TV I watch on using the Fire TV is a new LG OLED, and it's got pretty impressive smart functions as well.

I think you're using with it an echo studio?

My 4k fire sticks are ok except the bedroom one which is hooked up to a couple of echo dots. That sound on that one wigs out every couple of weeks.

@handle9 you are correct they are linked tough the link between Echo Studio and Fire TV got a lot better lately. For months it was plagued with problems like sound disappearing completely requiring the link to be disconnected and recreated for sound to come back. The thing is the Echo Studio sound is great compared to the crappy TV sound...

I have been running the Google TV with Chromecast for the past 8 months. It works really well, streaming the usual suspects but also with a sideloaded apk, able to stream Freeview. This is good when atmospheric conditions make the OTA a bit fuzzy.  I also run it as a Plex  client and it can play 4K (HEVC) content with AC+ with Atmos fine.  People do say it can run out of memory but I added a USB-C hub that allows it to connect via ethernet and also has a microSD card slot.

What app are you using and do you have frame rate matching enabled?

I noticed a bunch of issues with Netflix as they don't switch frame rates on the FireTV. Since we got a new TV we're using the built in Netflix support.

Just watched some Head High via Kodi  on my 4k Stick and no issues.

Plex, Netflix, Hulu, Peacock, Prime Video, Disney+... You name - it's not app dependant. It is almost like all the apps use a single API to play video and that single API is failing all over.
